Another Super High End Phono Stage! No expense spared...

Mouser for C1-4 and Antek for the Toroidal tranny - 15-0-15. My caps are tight but they fit and look ok. Mouser was out of the taller thinner ones I wanted when I odered my parts. Spacing is critical on the ESP boards as they are very small. When ordering I always look at the spacing on the leads and size of the can for caps. I lernt that one the hard way. You will have to keep to the 1/4 watt resistors or mount them standing up if you get larger ones. They are tight with 1/4 watt RN/CMF Vishay resistors I used.

C1-C4 - I used 667-EEU-FR1E222S Mouser - those are at the absolute max size that will fit. They are even tighter than I like but worked.

Cheers,
Bob
Thanks a bunch. I was on mouser looking around late last night, so think I can finish my order now. You learn a lot of things the hard way when trying to put together a DIY project without an engineered parts list - that actually 'fit' on the board! :D BTW, what is the part # for the x-former on Antek? This little project is becoming more expensive with each order. ;)

Bob -

Is this the Antek toroidal you used? Seems like overkill on the current capabilities for the P05b and for what we are using it for (CNC Phono Stage) pre-amp.

Are there other recommendations from the group that are a bit less robust than this tranny?

Thx,

This one might work for you:

Two 15 volt outputs each capable of up to 165 mA. Can get 15 volts at 330 mA or 30 volts at 165 mA or +/- 15 at 165 mA. Cost at ten bucks.

Cartridge loading

Hi all,
for my cart it says the recommended load resistance is 47k... what happens if I set it higher at 62k? Can it damage the cartridge or system in anyway?

Regards,
Sachin

CNC ain't dead after all!

Color me DUMB@SS ! ! !

Continuing the T/S of my apparently dead CNC, I was looking to see what was pulling down the input. It was OK at the open end of the RCA plug, but down in the noise when plugged in and measured at the inside center conductor of the jack. I pulled the opamp at that end and re-checked the jack and the signal looked fine. When I took a closer look at the circuits on the PCB, the whole problem slapped me in the face.

Last week I pulled the board out of the box to check for whiskers, bad solder joints, etc. Everything checked OK so I took it back to the family room and put it on top of the receiver for more testing. This time I put the circuit side up for easier access, and connected the RCAs the way they were laid out before.

I had the gozeintas in the gozeoutas, and verse vicesa!

Reversed the interconnects and it seemed to work OK. Tried it again this morning and everything still sounds good. Maybe my gremlins are gone for a while.

Thanks for all the tips, suggestions and encouragement - - -

Nope, you won't damage anything, you'll change the frequency response.

I had a switch upside down once, when I thought it was on it was off, so I starting pulling components until I realized there was no power to the board.:D

I used the AN-0215 but they look to be out of stock. I'd go up not down in power, the old addage "too much is just enough"!
The AN-1215 should work fine, I'm just a cheap bastid and wanted to get a decent toroidal tranny on the cheap @ $11 it was a no brainer. I forget the power draw with the CNC but it can't be much. Tomorrow I will have my PS finalized so I can swap boxes from the CNC to the P06 via umbilical cable, plug one in take a listen then swap is my plan.

Cheers,
Bob

Based on shelly_d's recommendation, I ended up ordering the AN-0115. Hopefully this will work with the CNC. It's rated at about 165 mA per side. What is the typical load of the phono stage? Hope I don't have to step up later. But you do have a point about bigger can be better. This tranny should be able to keep up with 2-9v batteries. :D

When fasterdamnit was here on Saturday night I did that twice. Once with the CNC and once with the LO/HO/MC IC preamp. The first time he told me the wrong connections, I did the second one completely without any help at all!.

Murphy's Law!

Edit: still waiting on board delivery... almost patiently.

Caution!

Once it get beyond the "infant mortality" stage one hopefully won't have many reasons to be pulling the RCAs. For now I have tied a small piece of yellow & black "caution" ribbon around the interconnects from the TT. It does get your attention.

Finished! It sounds really great!
