Another undecided cartridge

I've seen several similar threads, so I thought I would share this one. I was unable to find anything on this particular Grado cartridge, so I followed previous thread advice and emailed Grado. It appeared to have an older grado gold cartridge.

"This cartridge was on a turntable that I acquired. I have been unable to identify it online and would appreciate your help.

Grado- it is a Reference Series 1, plastic chassis - predates the wood chassis models

Me- Thanks so much for you quick response. I have been wanting to try a Grado cartridge, Is this one that I should invest in a stylus? If so, which one would you recommend and any info on set up would be great.

Grado- first determine if it functions well if so , when it needs a new stylus, you can invest in one

Me- Thanks. I don’t think I was very clear. The stylus is completely shot, so it needs a new one. Any suggestion as to which stylus and any set up information on the cartridge would be appreciated. Looking forward to the experience.

It kind of sounds like that, but they seen hesitant to provide any detail information. I'm still new to this and I feel overwhelmed, but intrigued by the whole world of cartridges.
 
That cartridge is the same as the G1/G2. That was top of the line from that era from Grado Labs. The carts above that came from Joseph Grado Signature Products. The stylus that will present the closest to the original is the 8MZ. The cartridge will also benefit from loading differently than 47K. Although it will play fine into 47K, it will flesh out better at 22-24K.

The stylus to fit is the $150 8MZ, it should then better the Prestige Gold.
I can't comment on the $200 MCZ, the $300 TLZ or the $450 XTZ.
You need a real Grado expert to comment on the latter 3.
