After over a month of fighting with everything from dried grease, to the cam link not moving in far enough, to the platter gear teeth ticking against the main cam when idling, I'm finally down to my last problem (I hope), and it's one that I have never seen discussed before. The tonearm will move in just fine and set down perfectly in the lead in grooves on a 12" record, but it falls way short when trying to use auto-play on a 7" 45 record. If I adjust the tonearm to catch the lead-in on the 45, then the tonearm sets way too far in on a 33 rpm disc--there's no happy medium. I've looked at it from underneath and it appears that the flag on the pickup lever (263) doesn't quite make it to the stop on the selector lever (243) for 7" records, so the tonearm never quite moves that extra 5/16" to catch the edge of the 45. I made some adjustments and when upside-down the pickup lever appears to make it all the way over to the selector stop when turning the cam by hand, but when it is actually cycling on its own, it falls short again.
I'm almost to the point of smashing it against the basement floor for all the frustration it has given me. Has anyone encountered this problem. Everything has been taken apart, the old grease removed, and new grease added, but it still refuses to work through this one problem. HELP!!!!!!
