Anti skate weight?

I have an Optonica RP-1414 from about 1978 and it is missing the anti skate weight. I can make one using a fishing sinker and thread but not sure how many grams the weight should be. I use an AT 100E catridge which tracks at 1.4 grams VTF. Should I make the anti skate weight be 1.4 grams, so it is the same as the VTF? I see that Pro-Ject stil uses this style of anti skate device and that their standard replacement weight the is 2 grams, regardless of cartridge tracking force. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

Just use hex nuts and nylon thread and experiment. That's what I did when I owned a turntable with a line-and-sinker AS rig. At one point, I had two different line-and-sinker sets to accommodate the different cartridges I was using.

Thanks. I created an anti skate device that is about 1.5 grams. The anti skate "arm" from which you hang the weight has 2 notches where. At first, I tried the notch furthest out from the tonearm pivot point but that apparently applied too much anti skate pressure and often it would affect the play of the last track on a record so I've moved it to the notch closer in to the pivot poont which seems to work. Since the rule of thumb seems to be that anti skate should theoretically equal VTF, I was curious about the weight of the sinker.

In reality, skating force is a fraction of tracking force. The little marks on the AS dials on standard turntables don't tell you how much actual AS force is being applied. So, in and of itself, the sinker mass on a line-and-sinker system doesn't tell you that much.

You can buy these weights online for about 14 dollars. that way you not fishing.
You can make a homemade AS rig with about 1-cent's-worth of materials. It took me about five minutes to make a couple of line-and-sinker rigs. It isn't rocket science.
