Any Comments About the B&O RL140's?

I have a chance to get these! Will be able to audion them possibly tomorrow. Any comments. They do come comple with the room stands!

They're pretty decent. It takes some work to refoam the several woofers. The older ones have a bass radiator that deteriorates and should be replaced with the vented insert design of the later ones. Also, you can replace the cosmetic grill bands with new ones on eBay.

Thanks Zonk- I got a chance to take out like a dozen Phillips screws and look ander the hood-again I agree- the driver compliment is umpressive as it the network. The foams look to be in very good condition too. Can't find hardly any lumps in this sack of potatoes!! The stands look like a great idea. I am not real sure about recapping them too.
Will take some pics tomorrow looks nice under the hood.

I used to sell them. Head to head against many other competing speakers from dedicated speaker companies they would lose in a comparison in the demo room when everything was set up optimally. But doing things that way was to fundamentally misunderstand what B&O was aiming at. Set up at the typical customer's house with imperfect acoustics and one set up in the corner and maybe the other beside the sofa....B&O would sound better almost every time. They made their speakers for the way their customers lived and they performed better in most cases because of it. For the small percent of the population that would set up their room around their sound system, there were other choices and B&O was OK with losing that business.

Great review! I take it these were made for the typical living areas most customers had. I personally would rather have something made with that design implement that say a test chamber- a realistic approach and differant too! Having looked under the hood i am impressed with the driver selection. It looks to be quite a good driver selection and crossover design quite good as well! I like what B&O did here I just wanted to be sure I was not going to potentially be buying an extensive recap and re-foam projet with even more $$$ to invest. I like what I see a pretty well thought out, modern appearing, potentially good sounding, set of speakers I could easilly live with

I recapped my buddy's for him but he insisted on cheaping out with all electrolytics. I never heard them beforehand so I can't say if it was an improvement. The recapping work itself was straightforward.

Ya the xover is easy enough to get to- I may look at the high end circuit in ine yet and poly it out

I finally inspected both of them and all woofers have good foam. One thing is to remember just how the batting pads go back in the cavity!

As for the sound, I put them on the factory stands, the sound is not bad at all! Anyone needing a modest size system would really enjoy this set. The dual 6.5's along with the 1" SEAS Tweeter and PR bass for a low end reinforcement plays well. The sound is good. My wife loves their looks- as does my cat.

I have become used to listening to a more dynamic system and this one is more laid back. The 12", 6" and 1.125" Morels supported by a weighted 15" PR really fills my room well! The B&O does what it does very well- just in smaller rooms!
