Hey guys, im having an issue that i cant seem to fix.
you know when say your on craigslist, and click on the e-mail link in an ad and you get the e-mail window?
this window has the e-mail link and post number you want to reply to right? well, when i type my message and hit send, i always get a error message.
then i try to copy/paste the link in my regular e-mail account and type my message, but i never get a reply.

how can i get that pop up e-mail thing to work?
Im sure someone knows what im talking about.

can someone help me? i keep missing out on some decent CL deals i think because the seller isnt getting my e-mails about their ad`s.

Register to hide this ad
you could try putting an ad on yourself for testing purposes then reply to it ..
on my computer i use thunderbird email client .if i click an email link it opens a new message to whoever is in the link .it never fails .
another thing if i sent a mail that isn't delivered it gets returned to me .
maybe you are just unlucky .or your mails are going into the recipients spam mail ? might be the name you are using for emails ? anti spam looks for keywords .

but why does the pop-up e-mail window keep giving me a error message every time i try to use it?

Hi bad!

What does that message state?

I took a pic,
Im not to smart with this stuff, i have no idea what this means LoL.

I have sold things on CL, so i know people can e-mail me and i can reply to them, but i can not seem to reply to anyones CL ad.

It's not finding your designated (for that email account) outbound server. Try sending a regular email to yourself from whatever account is pop3.

Do you have multiple email accounts? Check your email accounts properties for one that sends without issue and see which smtp server it uses.

Looks like your email client is not setup correctly.

How do you normally access your email? Do you login to a website (such as comcast or gmail or yahoo, etc) and signin or do you use Outlook?

how do i know what smtp or pop3 they use?
i have a gmail for important/work related e-mails, and use yahoo for BS mail.
but they both work, so im not sure how to set this e-mail window in the pic up to work with them.

Thanks bad!

Yea, like others have stated, something is not correct with your email client. There may just need to be a setting change.

i have msn live (Gmail) for important/work related mail, and yahoo for BS type mail.
when i sell something on CL, i use the yahoo account. i know it works because i get people emails about my sale.

One way to do this is to right-click the link in Firefox and choose the option to copy the email address. Then you can go to email in the normal way and paste in the address. Otherwise, you might need to track down a problem with some sort of firewall on your system.

You need to go to the Yahoo and Gmail websites and lookup "setting up email client" in the help section and follow the directions in order to get the popup email function to work.

In the meantime, you can log into either email account online and click on New Email and cut and paste the email address, subject, and content into the new email. (just in case there is something you want to reply to right now)

I tried the copy/paste thing using my regular email account, but i dont get a reply from the sellers.
i tell them i`ll purchase their item for their asking price, when can i come by and check out the goods, i never get a reply.

i have done the copy/paste thing many of times, i never get a reply.
i know its not because i am trying to low ball a sale, i state i`ll buy their item for the price they are asking.

one ad has been running for three weeks, i have sent a email every week with no reply.

I think Craiglist has some email issues and is probably also blocked by a lot of ISPs due to spam issues.

I just bought a record collection a few days ago. Over 150 albums for $50. I had been emailing her for 3 weeks. When I finally got a reply, she said she was ready to throw them away because nobody emailed her about them.

I would suggest just to keep sending emails until you get a reply and send them from both of your accounts.

Lots of Craigslisters never respond. Its pretty par for the course. Unless the copy and pasted emails come back -- they are getting to where they are supposed to go. Whether they end up in some spam folder is a question.

Several people are nibbling around the exact issue you are having.

When you click on an embedded email on a webpage, the web browser talks to the operating system and asks who the default email PROGRAM is and opens it up to send the email. The embedded links will not work as intended with with webmail.

The picture you included is trying to send email using a server call "smtp" -- that is not a real server on the web, so it clearly will not work.

Yahoo doesn't support email clients unless you pay for it last time I checked, Gmail and MSN do -- MSN is easy to set up since its built in, Gmail you need to log in and go to your settings and turn on IMAP and follow the instruction they give you. Both will work in a program called Windows Live Mail that is likely on your computer already. You will need to delete the bad account that is already in there and start over.

You have to enable it in gmail -- the big cog on the upper right in the webmail -- then settings.
