I just picked one of these up for free—anyone have any experience with it? (I know Monster isn’t a very well-respected brand around these here parts, lol)

I don’t have any kind of “power conditioner” in my setup, only a surge protector/power strip, so I’m going in completely blind...

It appears to work fine—is there any risk to my equipment? (Check out my sig for gear specifics). Amp & preamp would go into dedicated “amp” and “preamp” outlets, turntable would go into “spare” outlet.

The backlit display showing wall voltage is pretty cool...

Great find especially for the price!

I’ve been using a similar HTS-3500 in the main system for years. I do not, however, plug either pre or power amps into it. It is used strictly for sources. In the garage system, I use an older HTS-1000 for the DAC.

MIne also has a meter, but is positioned behind the gear turned around for easy access to outlets.

JMO, Monster made some decent products. I'm still using original Monster cable wire to my subwoofer.
If I had the opportunity like you had, I would most likely grab one of their power center products.
Used to be if you had their wire and the copper was turning green they would replace it for free, not sure if they still do that.
My personal complaint with them is how they tried to sue any company/product that used "monster" in it's product name.
To me it bordered on ridiculous.

Monster made fine products, people most take offense to their predatory business practices and how they - to a large degree - convinced people that they needed magic cables.

When they first started out I was invited to a very nice event at a jazz club they put on at the Chicago summer CES show. Their main selling point was that their products created a new profit center for the retailer.

Is there a reason why you choose to not plug in your amp or preamp? I was kinda hoping I could do that with mine...

The only thing I dislike about Monster products is .................the ..................price!

On connecting to,

Amplifier on timed on.
Preamp and Turntable timed off.
This way any noise caused by turn on/off should be eliminated.

I have one of the 3500's like @E-Stat , got it used from Goodwill last year. I've been using Monster filtering power strips for the past 6 years, they did have a noticeable ( barely with intense concentration ) impact in the quietness of my systems at idle. This latest one I have my Onkyo receiver plugged into the power amp plug.

I have that model in my system now. It replaced one that got toasted when a raccoon shorted the power lines out on the pole. The coon fried the transformer on the pole and sent 220V into my house briefly causing the lights to flicker, and next I heard a popping sound and the music stopped. I immediately went to the breaker box and shut the house power off. I smelled fried electronics and found the Monster Cable unit sacrificed itself to save the components I had hooked up to it. Nothing else in the house was affected. Since that cheaper model Monster Powercenter worked so well I bought the HTS5000 to replace it.
