i'm thinking of looking for one but haven't found any going from my standards(75-100)price as of now. even a broken and messed up one i saw on ebay go for more then 70...so wondering how much they usually go for and what is reasonable for a at least a working condition one? i'm just curious.

75 to 100 is about right.
The C50 is the same thing without parametric tone controls and is often much cheaper.

...and without inverted outputs, which is interesting if you like to bridge your amps. :)

Rex, if you're thinking about a Yamaha preamp, shoot for a Yamaha C-2a or C-2x.

I don't brag about my gear or take a fan-boy attitude since: 1) There is always something better out there 2) Everyone has different ears so what I like may not be likable to another 3) Another endorsement dilutes the praise.

With the Yamaha C-2a, however, I think I've found a preamp that is hard to beat. These 1980 vintage preamps are fairly rare since the MSRP was high, at the time and sales were not astronomical. If you can stretch your budget a little or get lucky, it would be a great find.

I am using a C-70. How would you compare the sound to a C-2a? and what amp are you running? I'm using a couple of bridged PC2002's.
