Any Info on Pioneer Model XD-6?

Hi there,

It's been impossible to find any real info on these speakers aside from an old audiokarma post that didn't really answer the OP's question.

I'm asking if anyone can tell me whether or not these are worth trying to refoam. I picked them up for $20 so it's not a real loss to me if not. I have so many projects at the moment that the only way I'll hang on to these is if they happen to be some hidden gem of the vintage speaker world. Otherwise, to some audio-interested friend with nothing better to do or to the curb they go.

My guess is: probably not. Pioneer did make some good speakers, but these look like entry-level. They might sound decent, but I doubt they're anything special.

That's the only convincing I need honestly, thanks! I've got a pair of Cambridge Soundworks Model 6s that I really need to refoam though - I personally consider those worth the trouble. If anyone has any advice on where to find a decent kit, I'm all ears!
 
Rick Cobb (rcobb@tampabay.rr.com) can get pretty much any surround and his prices are reasonable. Many AKers swear by him.

OTOH, if this is your first refoaming project, it might make sense to purchase surrounds for both sets, and practice on the Pioneers. If you screw them up, you won't have lost much.
 
Would be interesting to know the back story on the "XD" series Pioneer speakers since they were actually made in the USA.

Many, if not most Pioneer speakers (and, in fact, most speakers from Asian manufacturers) sold in the US, at least until relatively recently, were made in the US. Even the crappy rack system speakers.
 
The decent Pioneers i'm familiar with are all quite clearly marked on the original cartons, and enclosed literature as well as the speakers themselves "made in Japan", HPM's of all variety, lattice grilled CS series.

The XD-6 is clearly marked made in USA on the pasted manual as well as the factory cartons. I would opine that they also are squarely on par with crappy rack system speakers. ;)

Hmm...I guess I'm not too surprised that the lattice grilled speakers were Japanese-made, but I was under the impression that the HPM series was American made.
