Yes. DA was a speaker line made by or for (not sure) Audio Technica and sold out of their Ohio distribution center. You see them a lot in Eastern Ohio/Western PA. That particular model is about a one foot cube. In the first attached picture you can see the box is anchored to a platform with about 1" spacers. In that space is a downward firing woofer which almost certainly needs refoamed. Some less astute sellers don't even realize that driver is there. They think there is no bass because they think the mid is a small midbass in a two way configuration instead of realizing they are a three way with a faulty woofer. You remove four bolts to take the bottom off then refoam as usual. They aren't bad sounding at all if you need something in a small space that sounds a bit bigger (after they are refoamed). Sometimes you can point out the needed repairs to an unaware seller and use it as a bargaining chip. Price is about what it should be if they were refoamed. 40% or so high if not. Sounds like a PITA but it's actually a fun project.

Canton should be pretty much ground zero for those. If they are new to you I suspect you may be newer to the hobby (or at least less obsessed than many of us).

Worth trying to buy half off ? Might make. Good for bass dispersion ? Asking for stuff free neve rworks someone suggested that on here .

I'd pay $25 for them. Have you ever refoamed speakers? Are you into giving it a go? Not great for bass dispersion so much as a way to cram a three way into a tiny space. Sounds good in the right placement, a standing wave machine if placed poorly. Remember, deep bass is largely non-directional anyway but I have no idea what frequency those are crossed at.

I'm not saying ask for free, just saying that if they need foam that gives you a bargaining chip.

I know how to reform but might need a new guide Ben ages since I tried it . Last time I bought new woofers , kept the originals realized later they didn’t need refooam haha fixed em by reconnections of power wire to woofer .

Seeing they are PS10 and not 10a they may not need a refoam, the first ones were rubber surrounds. They're decent speakers, but if I didn't have space constraints I'd rather have a set of OLAs, or AT-10s.
Mine were picky about their driver and were a bit of a disappointment until they were paired with a NAD 3020.
I paid $65 for mine. They have the rubber surrounds. I haven't redone the crossovers which might help with the top end, but I wouldn't expect too much in the bass dept.
Someone here replaced the woofs with, I think, low profiles from Dayton and said it was an improvement.

I ran a pair of these for about 15 years. Used an SAE A502 (bought both new) to drive them and had them on 26" sand filled spiked stands. Mine had the foam surrounds and I gutted them when the woofer surrounds disintegrated (tossed the woofer in the trash, figured they were shot). Wish I had them back knowing what I do now and how easy it is to refoam woofers.

Seller won’t budge on the price $50 worth it.? I’d have to see if I have enough money . Probably gotta wait til next month to repair surrounds if there rotted .

SHould I ask $40 or so you think $50 is a fair price I’m low on money might want try and barter a bit haha .$20 offer was way to low I guess for seller.

I bought my last pair at Goodwill for 5.00, but had to replace the woofer surrounds, which is never fun, so I have 30.00 in them. Sound quality is mediocre at best.

Ahh so you would pass ? Not worth it then .
I’ll look out for some klipsch or something decent branded .

The thread on here called " your most dissapointing speakers " or something like that, had one person name the PS-10

I use them in our living room as rear tv speakers because they fit behind some furniture, otherwise I would have sold them. Others say they need to be at ear level to sound their best, so you'll have to buy stands too.

I bought a pair for $20 some years back. Refoamed the woofers and had to replace a tweeter. I was in about $50 after all that, and I still think they were pretty good for the money. Ended up giving them to my son.

If you want to keep them, $50 is a good price (assuming they function as is). If you want to flip them, keep shopping.

Is your goal to buy all of the cheap speakers, or are you looking for something nice to listen to?

I think I’m just going to wait until I find a job , they looked interesting design wise and went low hertz . I don’t think they are worth it .
Better to invest in quality audio then piles of worthless junk .
Maybe buy stuff on here when I can get the money for bartertown membership.

Anything mediocre or boring id rather not buy .
My klipsch Icon set up is fine , until I can afford better quality.

I had heard these speakers back when they were in production and was impressed by the amount of clean bass such a small box could put out. I didn't do any serious listening but I remember being pleased with the overall sound. Other AK'ers and I have in the past recommended them for people looking for good sound in a small box. Doubtless there are better speakers out there, but when you considering what you're getting for your 50 bucks (assuming they're cosmetically and functionally good), I don't see how you could go wrong. I wouldn't call them worthless, but I also wouldn't buy them as an upgrade to what you already have. You have the overall right idea, save your cash for when a really good deal comes up.

And yes, finding a job isn't a bad idea...:whip:

Only way to know is ask if the bottom woofers surrounds aren’t bad . They could make good basement speakers , but dont know if there better then my Rtr ev9 with goldwood heaven duty woofers possibly clearer bass ?
My main system is probably far clearer it’s newer klipsch icon with pioneer Andrew Jones floor standers as side surrounds .

Why are bottom firing woofers so rare ?in Speakers, that’s why these looked neat .
It’s kind of like a Speakers on same level as what I’m using now ,in My basement .

Basement speakers is exactly what you don't want them for. They are a tradeoff design to try to give some decent bass in a tiny space. Big ugly speakers with low WAF are what belong in the basement. Some Rectilinears or Mach Ones. Something kabuki.

@Hobie1dog played them to their strength.
