I was really glad to find this site! I've been into Pioneer SPEC equipment for a long time and I thought I was one of the few. Not so I guess :) !

I have several hobbies and one of them is restoring a 1968 Jeep Super Wagoneer (1 of 1200 built between 1966 and 1969). As a new member, I figured it would be appropriate to share.

Are there any other Jeep people here? I've meet very few people who even know of the Super Wagoneer. It's always cool to chat with jeep folks. I figure alot of people here are also into vintage autos, particularly utilitarian/luxurious autos such as the Jeep Super Wagoneer.

My Leper Smurf. :D Been using it a LOT this winter.

Not quite up to the same restoration quality as yours but it gets the job done. Nice jeep btw. Mine is a 77. It's funny how little they changed these over the years.

Yeah, it's amazing that many parts of your '68 were used on my '78 Cherokee Wide Track. Sorry, I don't have any up to date pictures of mine since it's partially torn apart in the garage but it's basically like this:

I had the engine, transfer case, tranny, and all drive shafts rebuilt. When we dropped the rebuilt engine in we put rebuilt/new components on it and added a bigger better carb to the 360. The only thing it needed was the exterior completely done and then a drunk smashed into the backend of it a few Christmas' ago. When I get the bodywork completed I will repaint it the original paint scheme which will have silver metallic paint where the above pictured one is blue. I love mine, for haulin' asp up in the mountains it's a blast.

I know what your saying about ours being the same. As you probably know, the body design didn't change from 1963 to 1991. However, they are very different. Mine came from the factory with a Buick built 350 (totally different from the chevy 350), a "nailhead bolt pattern" TH400 trans and a Dana 20 T-case. Very little that would swap directly, but, I love all FSJ's ( Full Size Jeeps)!

I was speaking mostly of the body and interior, I know the engines and drivetrain are different. It's been awhile since I've been to the full size jeep site but I read almost everything anyone had written about the 360 and the Chief when I was planning for my rebuild/upgrade a few years back.

I originally bought mine for $600 in 1989 since it had a blown water pump and the typical rust you'd find on a Midwestern Jeep. I dutifully cut the rust out and brazed new panels back in (I didn't have access to a wire welder) and repainted her dark blue in '94.
 
Love them, but never owned one.

My buddies owned Wagoneers, Cherokees, CJ5s, CJ7s, Wranglers, CJ8 Scramblers, Jeepsters, etc.

Anything from the 4-bangers (Hurricane I-4?) to the straight sixers to various v8s- chevy 350s, and wazzit 360s or 340s?

32s to 44s typically- and various Dick Cepek tires the rave.
 
Had a '78 CJ7, basically stock, used to cruise around in the mountains and steep logging trails with friends. Had a blast with that Jeep, and loved taking family and friends out to enjoy the outdoors.

Then, bought a 1990 YJ brand-new, proceeded to modify it with wheels, tires, lift, shocks, re-geared the axles etc. Did some pretty hardcore off - roading with it.

Now, my son and I explore the back country in a Yamaha Rhino side by side atv. Family, friends, co-workers who ride and the local atv club means there is always someone to ride with.

I don't own one now but currently looking for a Cherokee or Grand Cherokee for picking up speakers and audio gear with.

I've had a couple jeeps and always been a huge fan. My first Jeep was a 1962 Willys CJ 5 I restored (fun toy) and had a Cherokee for many years too.

It's a Jeep thang...

Very nice Jeep,you don't see those restored often and Buick power that year,sweet.

I had a '67 many years ago,it had the Rambler (AMC) 327 V-8 with a turbo 400 automatic.
 
Loved my 1980 Chief, Now a Commando owner.
 
between dad and my two brothers we have owned

1942/43 GPW (Ford made military Jeep modified with Stude 327)

1948 CJ-2A (modified on 1957 CJ-5 frame and 1950 CJ-3A windshield, Stock running gear)
1949 CJ-2A (Stock never ran much dad said it was all rust stuck together)
1957 Wagon (226 super Hurricane stock save a LOA lift over axle)
1965 Wagoneer (230 Dautless 3spd our family car from 65 to 76 Bought new)
1970 Gladiator J3000 (Bought new Buick 350 Turbo 350)
1973 CJ-5 (ex Mud racer has had so many engines I can't keep track)

Only one we still have is the 1948 It's currently spread all over my carport in an attempt to be restored and upgraded.
 
I bought a 96 Grand Cherokee about 4 years ago and it runs like a champ. I don't do any off roading with it, just my daily driver. One of my friends is a long time Jeep guy and highly recommended I give one a try. I am very happy I did.
 
My first car was a 1977 Jeep Cherokee 4 door with the 258 inline six. I drove it throughout high school (1987 on)and into the mid 90's when rust really starting taking it away from me. I reluctantly sold it in 1998.

I loved that car (truck!). It was white and everyone called it the "Milk Wagon". I added an under-dash a/c system like the factory one. I had a huge sound system in it with Sony head units with Hifonics amps, Canton mids/highs, and JBL subs.

It would hold a lot of people and was a lot of fun. Slow as hell, but that was ok.

I will have to dig up some old pics and put them online.


I still would love to find a 1990-1991 Grand Wagoneer in excellent condition (if I had the $) and put fuel injection on it with a better intake, and exhaust system, to try to improve the dismal mileage.

A-HA! I thought I'd drooled over that Super before! Welcome over to AK. There are a few of us FSJers over here. I've got a '91 FE GW. Maybe I'll post pics. There are a few in the Wheels, Wings, etc. forum. I could post them here as well.

Maybe you'll find a good deal on one in this dismal economy. TBI drops right on with little modification. You could do MPFI as well, but that's harder and more expensive.

Love my Jeep! I had a 1999 Cherokee Sport, which was my first "New" car, leased it first and bought it off the lease. I had 92,000 miles on it when some tool rear-ended me on the LIE, 2 years ago. The insurance agent gave me slightly more than book. "The back seat isn't even dirty."
Bought a used 2004 Grand Cherokee that had 36,000 on it, in pretty nice shape. Just threw some new Michelins at the 50,000 mark, nice upgrade from the stock Goodyears, noticeably quieter. Less truck like ride with the Grand versus the regular Cherokee, due to Independant rear suspension versus solid rear axle, which did not appreciate the FDR Drive in Manhattan. If you've driven it, you know what I mean.
 
1997 Cherokee SE here, and I will drive it until it falls apart! I love your Wagoneer, I keep telling my wife I will have one someday.
