Heh! Just found this thread and figured I'd chime in...have and have had many Jeeps...
Still have ones.

Love these vehicles, easy to work on and they are dependable (usually)!!!
The 89 Cherokee is one of my current DD's, the others are all strictly off road.
The 79 has 4" of lift, new 258cu in with a Weber carb, 10.50X35 Boggers and soon to be sporting 4.88 gears with a Detroit for the rear and a True Trac for the front. I guess an exhaust mod with headers and dual pipes may be in order sometime after that. Hoping I don't do in the D44 and D30 with all that tyre and torque, cos then I'll be looking at another hefty bill for bigger axles, new gears, lockers etc.
Fun vehicles for sure. The 87YJ was my Jeep in Spain, had a swapped in mid 90's 4.0HO still running the Peugot BA 10 trannie and some 31X10.50 mudders. Great for mountain trail running over there.
I'll have to dig up some pix and figure out how to put them up.

Funnily enough I did see a couple of Commandos in Spain, both Jeepster Commandos and both sporting diesel motors, 4 cylinders I presume. One belonged to a German younger man, who spoke little Spanish or English, so I didn't get much info. This was in the town of Javea, at the Lidl (German) supermarket. The vehicle had no top or roll bar, but seemed to be in pretty good shape.
The other was in a rural area on the plains of La Mancha in a sunflower planted field, putting along and being driven by an older gentleman. I presumed diesel as there was a plume of black exhaust trailing behind it.
I also saw several restored flat fender CJ's and MJ's, all seemed to have 4 cylinder diesels. One in particular was a perfect restoration of an MJ, complete with all insignia, shovel, axe and military type antenna. This was in the small pueblo of Murla, situated in the Jalon valley. The other flat fenders were seen regularly in Javea, one even being offered for sale at a price of 4K Euros. Jeeps command very high prices in Spain.
