Any LINN experts here (wakonda / LK85)

I just recently acquired this linn wakonda /LK85 power amp and helix 150 speakers. Information is abit sparse on linn products so that's why I'm asking.

Question is how do you know if it's been upgraded Or if it's running activ boards.
It's looks like it came with the mm phono option but there is nothing labeled phono?

I dont think it has activ boards. Hopefully it does not so I can run non-linn speakers.

I am certainly no expert, but have had several Linn products over the course of time. It appears your Wakonda pre has a MM phono on the Aux 2 input. AS far as Aktiv board, that I am less sure of. You might check the Helix speakers, if they have a passive crossover or not. It is doubtful there are Aktive cards, but one never knows, as a lot of the passive speakers were available as active options back then. You can always pop the tops off the pre/amp and see if Aktiv cards are in them-I cannot recall if they are in the pre or the amp. My LK1/280 all predate the Aktive cards, so I am less sure. If you get no other responses, you might try over in System Building-British forum, there may be more folks over there that can better help you!

You have some nice pieces there, have fun and I hope you get it all sorted! Tim

It was part of an estate. Got a really good deal on it. However the remote was no where to be found. I agree with you probably not active cards as it was running entry level linn speakers. However it was a bi wire setup and I don't have the jumpers. So that's why I'm second guessing myself. I will open it tomorrow and find out.

I assumed that it it was all bought at same place, it more than likely was a passive setup. The Helix isn't a bad sounding speaker overall. I had Nexus and several pairs of Kans including going active with them. It was fun times, and then I ended up going down a Naim path for quite a few years.

I'm just going to go on a good guess with the blank spot. No active cards installed.
