Any opinions on Cambridge Audio 840c vs Oppo BD105?

I have an Oppo BD105 and a Luxman D-100 that's in rotation for 2-channel audio duty now but have a line on a Cambridge Audio Azur 840c for not much money.

Anyone here have any opinions on one vs. the other and if the 840c is appreciably better than the BD-105? Worth getting and/or modifying or is it outdated performance wise being from ~2007?

One other thought is that it appears to be able to be used either as a CD player, transport or DAC. Is the DAC any good or can I do better in the $100-200 price range?

Do you listen to any modern high-quality hi-res recordings?

I have no experience with the Cambridge Audio 840c. Does it support:
  • Digital audio recording formats newer than 30+ year-old Red Book CD:
    • SACD (including multi-channel)
    • Blu-ray
    • Pure Audio Blu-ray
    • Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio
    • Hi-res FLAC download (24/96 and 24/192)
    • Hi-res DSD download
    • HDCD
    • Hi-def video (e.g., concert videos)
  • Remote volume control
  • Built-in “bass management”, including line-level RCA subwoofer connection, and configurable crossover parameters
  • Built-in headphone amp
  • Stereo and surround-sound (5.1, 7.1)
Bottom line: With the Cambridge Audio 840c, would you be equipped to play any modern digital recording, or be stuck with 30+ year-old CD technology?

I would keep the BDP-105 as it's in my home theatre system, but on rare occasion, I'll use it with an SACD and rotate into the 2 channel system if that's what the SACD is.

The CA is CD only and I think supports HDCD. For the other formats, I have other hardware. Most of my music is in CD and Vinyl. I do have a good size collection of FLAC/ALAC files, but I can stream those to my 2ch system via bluetooth using either my iphone or imac.

In this scenario, I'm interested purely in it's ability to play a CD and interested in primarily sound quality as opposed to features or other formats.
