Hello people !

I recently bought a pair of ESL 2905 ( BRAND new ) !!!

My equipment is fine when playing my YAMAHA SOAVO 01 's but.....

ESL are something different !!!

You see I have a full YAMAHA set ( A-S2000 amp, CD-S2000 player ).

I am going to... TUBE now and the question is...

Should I spend all that money for the MCintosh MA2275

or should I save and buy the PRIMALUNA dialogue premium ???

thanks in advance

Those are very inefficient speakers at a measured 79dB (advertised 86dB) and drop to as low as 3.5 ohms and as high as 16 ohms. Also, Quad's site shows that they have a max continuous input of 10Volts, so combined with the 79dB, a tube amp might not be the best bet.
Just for disclosure, I have been tube only for more than 20 years and have tried a wide variety of speakers. I think this would be a case where I would look at some high current sand amp instead.

High-powered tube amps and Electrostatics can be (sonicly) a match made in heaven in my experience. But the high-powered tube-amp factor is critical because of how inefficient Electrostatic peakers are. Personally I would not consider a tube-amp with less than 130 WPC to use with Electrostatics. And 200+ WPC is desireable.

With 79dB efficiency 70-75 watts will work, but more power will give you better sound. Unfortunately hitting the 150+ WPC mark with tubes gets expensive fast.

When it comes to specs I say no TUBE for the ESL's.
That's why my first choice was the Integrated MA7000...
Then I saw the small financial difference between that and the MA2275 and thought that for my small playback room ( 27 sq meters ) 75 WPC are OK !
You see I imagind it only with a tube amp....
I just want to know if the money difference between the primaluna & the mcintosh is something that I 'll experience with my speakers !

Thanks for posting back !
