I remember i haven't taken the situational awareness refresher course i normally attend in july every year,im now scheduled for the 3rd week in November, are there any other members who carry a sidearm . if so what do you carry & why did you chose the sidearm you carry.

Ive always carried large caliber sidearms with heavy grain loads such as my Colt Python or my Tarus 357 with 158 grain Magnum loads, however, this recent cop killing an innocent man has me rexamining everything were taught as CPL holders & im moving into smaller caliber sidearms with high muzzle velocity & light grain loads,i pick up a gen 2 Kel Tech PMR-30 chambered in 22 Magnum Tuesday or Wednesday,i like the idea of the weapon holding 30 rounds of 22 Magnum in a factory double stack mag that sits flush with the butt plate,i know what a double tap from a 158 grain 357 Magnum load will do at point blank range & i dont think i want to take a life hence ive stopped carrying the Python & will make the 22 Magnum my everyday carry piece,i can still wear my Tarus 357 on my ankle if i need that kind of hard hitting round while making the 30 round 22 mag my main carry piece.

Any thoughts from fellow comcealed or open carry members ? Im not looking for politics to enter into this but would like to speak to others who carry everyday & see if anything has changed with them since this latest cop killing that would closely mimic a just cause shooting for 1 of us entering our home to find a legit home invader, please no political posts.

Yup me and Jean both carry, along with both my daughters. It is second nature for us with all the military time we have. I even open carry it is legal in wisconsin.

My thoughts on the matter, which may or may not apply to the locations and situations you find yourself in- It's like photography. If you want that once in a lifetime photo, you pretty much have to carry a camera all the time. The one time you don't is the one time you'll wish you did. There's no way in the world I'd want to carry a weapon all the time, so the idea of self defense is hit or miss, no pun intended. That armed world isn't the one I want to live in and the chance of accidents is higher than the chance of a successful outcome. The other huge issue is the cops can't tell if you're a good guy or a bad guy; if you display a weapon I can pretty much predict what's going to happen next and neither party will be overly thrilled with the results. All that said, I'm pro 2nd, but don't know how to reconcile it with the modern world.

I meet the OP's qualifications to participate in this thread. I sometimes legally carry a .38 five shot, but not to the side. Front and center works good for me (except for taking a whiz in a public urinal). Car seat belts go over it, and it still can be drawn.

Routinely carry. My wife's whole family are LEOs.

Like audio gear, there are a lot of opinions on firearms. I'm very fond of the Ruger LCP, the S&W Shield, and almost anything by Walther or SIG.

Most SIGs are way too big for my hands, but the P250 fits like a glove. The deliberate, hammer fired, long-stroke DAO trigger makes it a very safe action. It's not going bang unless you really want it to go bang.

I don't mind anyone here knowing I carry.

My choice of ammo ?

140 grain full wadcutters, 710 fps. Low recoil, and a 2" barrel isn't long enough to get the fast ones up to speed.

A wadcutter is just as lethal as a hollow point from a short barrel.

There are new powders and bullet designs specifically engineered to function in short-barreled handguns.

That being said, my wife's .357 is loaded with either .38 wadcutters or Hornady Critical Defense Lite loads. She has strength issues related to DDD and associated neuropathy, so full-house .357 are way out of the question.

Federal HST, or Winchester Ranger are my go-to carry ammo for 9mm or .45 ACP. Hornady Critical Defense or Fiocci Extrema for .380 ACP.

Nope, nothing has changed.

Gonna be hard to keep this non political.

Nothing recently has made me buy more or less guns, for my person or home.
Part of my “defense” of/to/from today’s cultural/social/criminal environment is not advertising my fear, not falling prey to manipulation, not reacting without serious consideration, and not advertising my methods of defending my family and home.
