Hi, l am considering bidding on a very sad Pioneer Exclusive M3 but from what l can see it is missing the LH heatsink and outputs and who knows what else.

I wouldn't normally start a thread before the fact but without knowing what parts if any are out there l am very cautious to proceed.

Does anyone have any parts for one of these? Here is the link to the unit in question

Any help much appreciated please. This post has been moved, not sure if it is in the right forum? I am interested in possible parts, compatible heatsinks from other models etc, this is not a question about the value of the above mentioned unit.
 
I think you should buy it. It deserves a full rebuild and it's really only the heatsink and output stage missing. The heatsink style could be adapted from something else- cut down fins to suit.

Front panel looks good, case work can be stripped and painted. It will come up nicely.

It's a big job, but the amp board is intact, look a little toasty but nothing to worry about. Depends, are you up for the job?

For how rough the rest of it is the face looks amazingly clean. I agree with John, looks like a fun deep resto candidate. That heat sink might be a pain to find but you'll likely find something that matches well enough.
 
Thanks guys, l really appreciate your thoughts. I was concerned that if l did make the purchase and couldn't find an original heatsink that l wouldn't be doing such a deserving amplifier justice but you have both put my mind at ease in regards to this :thumbsup:.

Yes l agree, l think with some work it could come up nicely. Yes l would be up for the job, l won't shy away from a challenge :). If l did end up with it l would give it a full rebuild.

I have been looking at a few different Pioneer heatsinks and the M3 one looks very much like a double height version of an SA-7100/SX-737 one? I couldn't be certain without measurements of course. If this was the case l wonder if two of these stacked together would work although l am thinking they would have to be properly thermally coupled, especially to provide even heat transfer for bias diode reference?

The SX sink does look enough alike that it would probably work but it would likely be a pain to find two.

Actually, something like this https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Lot-of-...658205?hash=item41d6534f1d:g:nSwAAOSwmudaHxDf would probably be about perfect. A little cutting and milling then bolt together with some thermal paste between the sections. The nice thing is that they are covered by the casework so a mismatch won't stick out at all.

Thank you OMGCat for the support and the link, yes that looks like a great option :thumbsup:. l do know one of the owners of a local large engineering business where l could probably get the necessary machine work done.
 
Argghh, got pipped at the auction post, ahh well you have to set a sensible limit especially when l would have had to invest maybe 30+ hrs work and a few hundred in parts.
