Any Southern Rock Fans out there

No southern boy here nor southern rock fan but I always though Lynyrd Skynyrd were one of the top bands of the 70s.I saw them in '76.

+1 on Marshall Tucker. I think the 'Carolina Dreams' album is a classic, esp 'Tell it to the devil'.
+1 on the Allman Brothers. They have a fair amount of obscure songs (So Long, Louisiana Lou), some instrumentals (High Falls, Madness of the West) that never get airplay but should.

Jim Reeves was not exactly Country/rock but he was awesome for his genre, sort of a mellow mainstream country, a precursor to the 'Nashville Sound' later. when I was a kid we got a 'Hi-Fi' and my father had some of his albums. His Christmas album got a lot of play; my brother gave us CDs of it a few years ago. really brought back some memories.

Little Feat has a definite southern feel to much of their music although it doesn't really fit into what I think of a southern rock. Along the same lines of "not southern but Dixie influenced" would be CCR.

Sea Level and the Dixie Dreggs have that Southern Rock influence and ancestry with some jazz fusion thrown in for fun...although not noted as Southern Rockers but the Heartbreakers from Gainesville strike a mean tune as well.

Another band to consider is The Bottle Rockets out of St. Louis. Although generally put in the alt-country basket, their sensibility and songwriting certainly has a Southern touch.

Got tickets for The Allman Bros this Sat. night... good seats, outdoor venue. The show starts at 6:00 which probably means they're going to play about 3 hours. The town (Woodlands) has a curfew so they're starting early. Opening with Widespread Panic... anybody heard them? Maybe they're a new SRR band.
