Any TV movie/series dropped after ten minutes?

Maybe it's just me dropping a choice only after ten minutes or so.

Either the title/genre/description catches my interest, but once into production, the writing is so bad, and the characters just unbelievable or the plot is not evident...I drop it, and go on to another!

I must have spent a good hour last night following up on several movies/series, and just turfed after ten or so minutes of my time. I've even gone a complete episode or two, before the drop. I keep hoping it will get better.

Most are company made efforts (NETFLIX/Prime/etc.) , with totally unknown actors/writers.

Fillers at best?

Am I alone in doing this dropping?

Started watching The White Lotus last night - dropped it after maybe 15 minutes.
Emma said "her water's gonna burst" and 5 minutes later it did.
Too predictable and no real punchline I could see.
And as Emma said, none of the characters were likable. Who cared?

So...I am NOT alone!

I thought I was just getting too picky.

American TV is full of characters that are all movie star beautiful. I'm guilty of watching a show for the sole reason of a beautiful actress. When she gets "eliminated" from the script, I'll drop the show.

British TV on the other hand is full of characters that look like real people. That makes them more interesting and believable.

I'd really like to mention a TV series wherein the female (attractive) protagonist was the main stay of the show was killed off...but no spoilers from me. These productions are out there!

On your second POV on the Brit take. Better writers/directors? More sense of need?

An American series where my actress left and took me with her?
"Hell On Wheels"

The sets and wardrobe are much more developed generally in British TV too. Bigger budget for production?

No. I have done that as well, both with movies and TV series.

Friends with Money, starring Jennifer Aniston. The movie was just boring.

maybe for you. What really makes a movie or series interesting to me, is the story. Either “ordinary” people, or very attractive actors with great makeup can play the various characters.

The "story". Great point, for the most part.

However, it's when they, the producers, take a super novel and trash it with really poor attempts in reducing/transfering the story to screen, and the end product is nothing like the original intent!

With a budget maybe in mind, and the not wanting to offend, they might be restricted...I don't know?

By now, you'd think the people in the power positions would know what goes into a successful staging of a story...but they fall short so much of the time.

Since the pandemic started I’ve watched more tv, gives the wife and I something to do together and she’s always been a fan. Found a few I liked but a LOT I didn’t. The two that come to mind are Shameless and Orange is the New Black, hated them both. Also I’m a motorcycle enthusiast and kept hearing how I HAD to watch Sons of Anarchy, 10mins is about as far as I got.

I think they just look at the amount of money they have taken in, and decide not to take a chance and ruin a good thing.

Man... there are so many POV's shared to date that, I concur completely!

There must be a ton of us, who grit our teeth, and stay with a series/movie to the end, as we've already scanned a lot of previous material, and stay with the present effort, as the rest is worse!

I've never seen a poll to the "Effect of Audience Evaluation" of what is created out there. There is a short blimp in NETFLIX that allows a number evaluation, and I often wonder just how valid these ratings are. ?

In some many cases, even the better shows are excellent up to a point...then they turn into a Soap Opera! When this happens, I try to stay for a bit longer, then eventually drop it! Or as already mentioned by others, the prime character is killed off or lost, and the plot still straggles on. The "Living Dead" did this.

I've taken to watching foreign video offerings. Having to read the CC's are PIA, but often realism and a better plot is in the mix.

There...that's my rant for the day!:bigok:

For me once you've seen excellent TV (West Wing in the US. Unforgotten from the UK) it's hard to find anything else as good. I'll give anything 5 minutes but most don't make it. Having Acorn and Britbox helps a bit.

I do like the Brit shows like Unforgotten, Midsommer Murders, New Tricks, Shakespeare and Hathaway, Father Brown, etc., as they are more cerebral than the explicit and often graphic action style production of American shows.
I'm re-visiting some of the early Midsommer Murders as part of Sunday mini-binge for the past couple of weeks. The less graphic/dark dark tone and the gorgeous sets is what appeals to me.

I bailed on Tin Star (UK metro police officer relocates to Canada, but gets caught up in some pretty dark/gritty plot lines) - too dark for me.

Yeah, Tin Star was too graphic for my girlfriend but, I saw it all the way through...
Totally get it - diff strokes/diff folks.

I like a balance of dark to light in cop/mysteries, but if compelling enough I'll dive in.
