K nevermind about the parts unit request, I've been informed that this is definitely the wrong forum for that. Mods change the title if you want to something reflecting just a technical question about the displays since vb3 is totally awesome about not allowing title editing.

AAAANYHOW. My fluroscan displays on the SX-3900 are somehow screwed up, the display will intermittently go dim and sometimes will only read to 1W or 10W... usually power cycling the reciever will "fix" it. anybody got any ideas on that?

EDIT: While I'm on technical stuff with this thing, hey EchoWars, does this thing have a soft start circuit like the 1250/1280/1980 do?

I think a 3900 does have a soft start circuit . but EW would know :thmbsp:

Also as for the lights. 3900 has a dimmer switch for the lights. it could be acting up. and causeing it to be acting funny. :yes:

I got you both beat. My 1280 is sitting on EW's bench right now..... :D

I will tell you that the construction of the 3900 doesn't lend itself very well to a recapping. Not that it can't be done...

By far the biggest problem is the cheap-ass ignorant plastic connectors that Pioneer used to connect to the power transistor leads. They self-destruct and just flat fall apart once you try to do anything with them...like touch them.

I like the 3900 and think it's a great sounding receiver, but it's a long way from Japan's best effort. Good electrical design, so-so construction. Its good looks do go a long way though...

Yeah, sucks. I'd imagine you're pretty much SOL once it falls apart, or can it be saved?
