Anybody into trains?

Actually Skizo, that's 1601... Not the train in your first picture..

ooPs ... edited.

Speaking of RR Picture Archives, here's a project on the local excursion line:

Old CN 4-6-0 ... they were making some serious progress on getting the running gear in shape, but things stalled when they came up short on cash ...

Last I heard, it's been mothballed until further notice, and at most, we're talking a cosmetic restoration ...

That's a cool old train.. I'd love to help work on a restoration project like that..

Had I got a job out of law school in Carson City, Nevada (a friend ended up getting it), I was going to volunteer at the railway museum out there. :thmbsp:

Oh how nice of you.... The engine you commented on is in Michigan going by that posters location...

that was a joke...echoing the look in many a yard in WV...

Been to cass a number of times (grandad had a cabin not too far from there)

LOL.. well I can't deny my yard looks kinda typical WV right now.. BUT, it's also 50 times better looking than it was when we bought it.... However, no car's on blocks :D

Simi...thanks for the links to the "Aerotrain' picture archives! Built in 1955...so I had to be about 4-5 years old when I saw it. Interesting to read that the coaches were repurposed GM bus bodies! You can see it by the slanted windows on the cars.

Not related at all, but had to share....each year my wife gets me 2 RR calendars, one for office, one for home office. Being the procrastinator I can be, I hung the work one up last week (PRR calendar) - in october (my birthday month) was a pic of a brand new C630 taken at Pitcairn on 10/31/66. It was just delivered. I thot it was cool because I had just turned 2 and I do not remember if we were in trafford or pitcairn at the time, but my dad had me at the tracks nearly weekly. So its highly likely I saw this loco at the same time this pic was taken.

My grandfather worked for Missouri Pacific his whole working life. Actually retired just before I was born, but was recalled at a nice salary for a few more years during the early stages of the UP buyout. He's been gone since 1995, but UP still sends me his calendar every year.

semi related: at auction today they had 3 grif teller calendars and one pendergast.

I got the 1948 with all tear offs intact AND in a separate frame the accompanying message from the official about the year ahead.

Teller was an artist, not a historian. the F3s are trying to be F3s but I swear, where the portholes should be it looks like sliding casement windows and he neglected to draw in any exhausts....mebbe the PRR met Tier 4 early in a unique way? ;-)

I had to drop $175 to get it. And that was not the most, the Pendergast T1 went for 250, and the Teller T1 $150. the Teller set of GG1s from 55? went for $125

very nice Quad ! One of mentors early in my career was an old Pennsy man, I was lucky to acquire several (war era) complete Teller PRR calendars, matchbooks, Stuart Saunders stationary (whole box full) and so much other stuff I can't even remember. My memorabilia collecting is now limited to what actually means something to me, my career or my father and grandfathers career.
