I still Remember hearing and cracking up when all the BAD kids got busted, stealing drinking and smokin buds on that radio. :D

Well, I remembered excatly where mine was today...Over My Old Auntie's house on a Table in Her palor.
So I just called Her and She said "That old thang...Sho is Boy, I still listen to it every now and Then but it got a lil static" :scratch2:...Huh?, Awww No.
(Can You say Static Spray and a good cleaning)
hehehehehe...Well, She gettin a Brand New Radio this Weekend.
AND I'M GONNA TAKE MY OLD ONE OFF HER HANDS!

A lot of the police traffic has moved off those bands. Probably need a more modern scanner if you want to hear everything these days.
 
UHF 14 through 16 are easily receivable here via an old tv set and a uhf loop antenna or bowtie. Sporadic yes, and no squelching, but I can clearly hear some of the distress calls.
 
If you have an iPad you can get 5-0 Radio which is a Scanner App with a lot of Freq.s already loaded and indexed by area. The feeds are all streamed on the internet in the app and there are a lot of them.
The Airport freq.s are really interesting to me.

It can be fun and I use it at home and on the road but I am also a Ham Radio Geek if that helps explain it at all?

Kind of a new twist on an old hobby.

I used to have one.
Now days those won't work. Scanners are fun. There are two free ones available for Android that work darn good.
 
I got My radio back this morning and PA must still be in the dark ages.
There is lots of stuff to listen too, mainly on the Vhf band.
I've got some of the local townships, fire and rescue depts, police depts, water and sewage and a couple services I can't figure out yet.
(gas,electric,cable,etc?)

I bought My Auntie a real nice Stereo Clock Radio, AM/FM/CD player at K-mart...I set it on Her favorite talk radio station and She loves it.
My Uncle can't wait to listen to His baseball games their new radio.

Back in the Dark Ages (1960s), as soon as everyone in my crowd got their driver's licenses, we came up with an inexpensive Friday night activity. We'd listen to police calls, and when one came in nearby, we'd all try to get there before the police did. We had a success rate of about 40%.

I have one just like that. Still works just like the day I got it. It gets used when the power goes out.
