Anyone doing a garden?

Smitty you need me to send you some of these Thai peppers for your salsa. These things are 50,000 to 100,000 on the Scoville scale. For perspective Cayenne is 30,000 to 50,000 and I can only tolerate the Anaheim and Poblano's around 1000 to 2000. I like them to be around 1500 but some run hotter and some lower even from the same plant. When they turn red they go into a separate batch labeled "use sparingly".

These Thai's I'm picking are labeled "Oh hell no"! Still have to figure out what to do with all of them.

My wife just canned 4 pints of Salsa from the last of the Roma tomatoes with Coolapeno peppers and two jalapeno peppers for a small amount of heat so it looks like we will have some salsa this winter.

I love to garden. This year, though, nothing seems to grow right for me. The early summer was too brutally hot with nearly no rain.... The spring was soggy to the extreme.... the late summer, so far, has been alternating between periods of dryness and gully-washers were we get 1 - 2 inches of rain at a time in like 2 hours. :( At least my roses and bushes are growing though! :)

No thanks as I can't eat that hot stuff anymore and I sincerely appreciate your offer.

Well the temps here have dropped into the low 80's and the plants are responding. Flowers aren't dropping off as much and BER isn't as bad now. I've started to pick the not so good peppers to encourage the plants to start putting out some good ones.

And of course I can get a pile of these about every couple days...

Wow, that's a lot. I planted three pepper plants, two bell - one chili, this year but only one survived :( The good news is that it is producing fruits. Next year I'll put some in pots instead of the raised bed to give them more room. The tomatoes are doing well tho'. When the season cools down I'm sowing some broccoli, some carrots and Romaine lettuce.

A lot of plant but not a lot of peppers. This is what I got today....very sad but still holding on to hope....

Well its time to fire the grill up and add these to the last pickins and get them processed. I wonder if my local Chinese restaurant would take the Thai peppers..doubt it..then again I worry about something happening if I give them away and getting sued. :dunno:

I've been picking cucumbers for the last few weeks. Chard and arugula as well.
Tomatoes are all formed, but still very green.
We had a cold spring, cool June, then hot and drought for the last month. Not ideal....

The same bad conditions plagued us up here, even the early girls are still green, about a month and a half behind normal. I'm thinking the Romas won't have enough time to ripen.

My celebrity tomatoes went in late (June 21) but seemed to catch up quickly.

They will probably ripen late if these miserable animals stop eating the largest ones....(looking at you Mr groundhog).

I've got Celebrity as well. 3 plants are doing well.
I had one plant that struggled and only formed one decent tomato. I severed the roots with a shovel last week...the lone tomato finally has some color now. A few more days and i'll eat it.

Yesterday's take from my little patch.

That looks pretty good considering the weather. :beerchug:

I finally got my haul roasted and processed. I hate small peppers...it took like 2 hours just to do the Garden Salsa. I know they're not the type to be roasted, skinned and de-seeded...but its all I have to work with right now. I got 2 3/4 lbs each of Anaheim's and Poblano's...and 2 lbs of GS. The GS is hot so I can only use a pound per batch of chili...maybe. I need 7 lbs of the other two to make chili in a couple weeks and I only have 5 1/2 lbs so far. Last year I put away about 50 lbs and that just lasted me up to the last batch of chili a month ago. So it will work out perfectly if I can get another 45 lbs this year......:dunno:

EDIT: I forgot about the first little batch of chilies I already have in the freezer....another pound...so I do have enough for a batch of chili.
