Anyone doing a garden?

Great story mulester7. I can remember as a kid stealing some tomatoes off of neighborhood plants, waiting in the dark for a bunch of men that met on Tuesday nights in a garage apartment. They walked outside and I let about 6 ripe ones fly and took off running. This would have been in about 1964 or so. Come to find out they were the first AA meeting in town and that is where they met once a week. To make a long story short, I ended up becoming a drunk myself and AA really helped save my ass and taught me how to live life sober. One of these days if I catch a ripe tomato in the ear I will figure I deserved it. True story!
.....great post, www.r.....

Yours are looking mighty good! What are giving them, steroids?
.....Thanks, ChillWolf, I've been hitting the tomato plants with an organic fertilizer....I ordered a gallon of it for 31 bucks, and should have half of it left after this growing season....that's using 2 tablespoons per gallon of water once every 5-7 days in 5 buckets, your mileage may vary....it's not cheap, but the plants explode right off the bat....and when the root system is about 3-4 weeks old, the plants grow especially fast as they climb....I'll continue using the organic fertilizer 'till all the tomatoes are picked.....

.....when the tomatoes first started appearing, I pitched a small grab of lime into a gallon of water, and stirred until the gypsum pellets were dissolved....each tomato bucket has been getting a gallon of lime water once a week for about three weeks, as the first dousing of the evening goes through the buckets when the sun is down but it's still pretty good light....organic fertilizer goes into the buckets as the first dousing also at sunset, but on a different day than the lime....if neither are needing to be applied on a certain day, it's a gallon of water through 5 buckets....about sunrise, I run probably over a gallon of water with nothing ever in it, through all 5 buckets reinforcing the plants to withstand the day of sun....I'm tellin' ya, you can run about all the water you want to through buckets with holes in the bottoms, and the root-systems are never in standing water....just very moist soil, what's wrong with that?....the looser I got with more water, the more ALL the plants have responded with growth....these buckets get dry pretty quick in June, just as HatchetJack said they would about 40 days ago....I'll post the fertilizer link again next....the stuff would have to be great for plants in the ground also......

Nice looking garden Hatchet! You guys in Georgia have a 6 week jump start over us up here in NVA. Love the scarecrow btw. I thought it was you at first.

yes great looking garden Jack! Every thing here is doing great although some critter chewed the hell out of the cucumbers they were just starting to flower and what ever chewed them up left the blooms but ate almost all the foliage!
I hit them with miracle grow real good and there starting to come back just pisses me off. The cherry tomatoes on the back porch are starting to put out in great numbers I'm going to haul them out to the garden soon as they are going to take over the porch.
One of the butternut squash plants I can tell Is going to take over the garden.
Lots of rain so far this week so no reason to pump water from the creek.
I have a 5 horse water pump gas powered and in the dead of summer when it gets dry I water every night. At full bore the water pump will pull about 75 to 100 gal a min I let it run about 30min into the garden then Ill hook the pump up to the pipes in the yard and let the pump run till its out of gas. In the past its got so dry that I have dammed up the creek for water and its no fun digging in a creek when its 100 degrees out but it keeps the yard looking nice!

Nice to have a water source nearby. I have some rain barrels but when you go 6 weeks with no rain in July-August in 90-degree temps, they don't do no good.

.....King HatchetJack :king:....what else can I say?....:ntwrthy::ntwrthy::ntwrthy:....Great photography also!.....

Looking great Mule. My little lower garden with the scarecrow doesnt get full
sunlight due to all the trees and I plant it just to show the kids how things
work.Last year,I had tomatoes,peppers,watermelons,corn and pumkins down
there and they did not do very well but the bush beans, squash, cucumbers
and onions did fine so thats what I planted this year. When the squash and
beans play out,I think I will hoe it up and plant some fall greens and more onions.
I bought some of that powdered milk today and am going to try it
on the tomatoes, see if it makes them produce blooms and keep away the
blossum end rot as rumored. My brother already has been picking some ripe
grape tomatoes.
