Anyone else still at work through this Coronavirus pandemic?

He pawns it off on his job leads, but now he can’t. It came to a head at lunch, our boss told him to figure it out or go home. It’s not hard, daily reports and such in Word.

I really hope that if I legitimately pull the "I'm too old to learn something" excuse that someone whacks me upside the head.

Decades ago, a friend said: "Living in the 20th century is like flying on a hijacked plane."

A little way into the 21st century, that took on new meaning, and now - sheesh!

I saw on a Yahoo news feed that there were people protesting the lockdown in Michigan. Don't these people realize that the whole World is in the grip of this pandemic? People are there with "Liberty once lost is lost forever" banners and stuff. Like it's a violation of their freedom. Go ahead, wave your Chinese-made flags, and say you'd rather die than not be able to work. You just might get yourself and other people sick by your protesting, and then you'll expect the healthcare professionals to treat you.

Meanwhile, I still have to go to work. It worries me because I don't know who around me has been out mixing with other people. I would much rather lose some of this "freedom" people seem so up in arms about, just so I can make sure I'm not sick, and see my woman again. I have a million projects to do around the house, I don't get bored that easy.

Lee.

We have gotten more and more isolated at work, and are asked to wear masks all day, and disinfect out work stations regularly.
but it's beginning to be business as usual, as we get used to it.

There are other news sources the help to explain the reason for the protests. From just one of those sources:

"Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) finds herself at the center of the news cycle amid COVID-19, on account of her far-reaching stay-at-home order. Gov. Whitmer’s order is one of the most strict, and is being criticized as a constitutional overreach. Michigan lawmakers, including Democrats, are evidently frustrated with Gov. Whitmer’s harsh order."

"A handful of law enforcement officials even suggest that Gov. Whitmer has overstepped.....":

“While we understand her desire to protect the public, we question some restrictions that she has imposed as overstepping her executive authority...She has created a vague framework of emergency laws that only confuse Michigan citizens.”

There are a few specific restrictions on this that don't make a bunch of sense to me. Can't buy seeds to plant a garden in some states. Maine and Michigan at least seem to have that going on. I don't understand that. My suspicion is that its more an oversight than design. A declaration that everything is closed except for whatever is on "the list", and nobody thought to include gardening stuff. Frankly it seems logical to me to promote sales of that kind of thing. Its something to do, and if/when the crop comes in, its that much less that you need to go to the store for.

There is an official sterilization schedule at work. Surfaces, doors, etc. I don't think its getting done. Nobody else ventures into my little corner of the warehouse. I don't have a fancy chair and its not particularly out of view so people can't hide at my desk. I just stay back here and do what I need to do. Honestly its not much different than normal.

with over 75000 confirmed cases here in jersey I don't need any politician to tell me when and where I can go out. I am perfectly happy to sit at home and crank up the tunes DSOTM has never sounded better

My wife's job shut down last week. They are paying her 2/3rds of her pay. She's happy. I'm still working though.
My job is doing the mask, hand sanitizer and 6ft distancing. No big deal.

I took 2 weeks off from my PT position at the supermarket per my wife's wishes. I'm not so worried myself, using all the appropriate safety measures, but my wife didn't want me to bring something home besides a loaf of bread:) PT hours at my other job at the radio station have been cut severely for financial reasons, but those hours should return eventually. Only six people are allowed to enter the building...and I'm one of the six. Still chaps my keister to see so many people out & about with no face covering of any type. Evidently stupidity provides some immunity.

And If you guys are in the at risk group age wise I understand your Wife’s request ;)

I'm doing a lot of assembly, measurement and design work at home, but not the hours I usually work. Every few days I have to drop things off and/or pick them up. I do that late at night when the chance of encountering other carbon based lifeforms is at a minimum. It's not bad but I know I'm not getting as much exercise as I used to (that wasn't enough even then). Maybe I'm paranoid, but I'm also holding off on ordering things I want that come from NYC because I just don't trust the info on how long the virus can survive on various surfaces.

Lee.

The new order she issued was because people were not taking the first order serious.
around this area you would not even know there was a order. people out running around
all over the place. non essential stores still open. its been a real joke.
the garden center thing came about because the weather went from 30 degrees
to 60 degrees almost overnight and the people started packing into the garden centers.
when the county shut down our Lowes garden center they said ok and shut down the whole store.
if people don't wise up we are going to be on lockdown for a long time.

I am still doing requested designs of electronic equipment. This has never happened to me since I retired. Someone passed around my name as a designer. Apparently this is because of Covid 19. All the designing was being done in China, Japan, etc. There is an actual shortage of electronic design engineers in the US. I had an owner of several radio stations ask me to be his engineer. I really wanted to say no. He appealed to my patriotism. Now I am keeping up transmitters. I am 77, and really just wanted to be retired. I found a great PCB manufacturer in China. The made me a batch of really nice PCBs for my last design. For me, this crisis has demanded much more work from me. At least I can do it at home. I won't work on stereos anymore. I do not want to interact with the public. Anyway, now I don't have the time.

My wife is a healthcare worker. She caught it but is doing fine and should be back to work on Tuesday. I work for a cellphone carrier. Our company temporarily closed 80% of its stores. We lobbied our manager to adopt "virtual retail" where instead of doing in person sales, we do it over messaging via a pipeline from our website. Since my wife got sick, I am out until the 28th.

glad to hear your keeping busy up there in the middle of nowhere.
Stay safe

The Lowes and Home Depot in my area are limiting the number of people inside the store. One entrance roped, with tape every 6 feet. One employee at the entrance and each exit (in communication with each other) to keep track of the number inside.

Seems to be a more reasonable approach than telling people that they can't plant a garden this year. Which, for some, is essential.
