Anyone ever heard of "The Littlest Hobo"?

I'm referring to the Original 1963-1965 Television series. Not the 1979-1985 Series.

I'm sure many of you have, considering the median age in these forums is 58 years or somewhere around that age :)

If you haven't, here's a YouTube Video on the first of- well, a couple (I believe) Surviving episodes. One of the Episodes is in Color.

This Episode is titled "Blue Water Sailor". First aired September 24th, 1963.
Admittedly, this has become my favorite Television series to date :D

Happy Helping! :)

I'm 56. Hadn't heard of the show prior to this.

It was worth watching.

(quick English lesson...FWIW...you said "One of them are in color"...use 'is' instead of 'are').

Post a link the color episode, I'll watch it, too.

Here's the one in color; did my my own 'home work'.

They have the whole season in color.

BaHaHa...that episode is a satire of bad acting.

Actually, that's...the incorrect episode. The one you posted is from the '79-'85 Series.

This is the one colorized Episode (for the '63-'65 Series) that I was referring to.
My apologies, I was working on my tedious U.S. History "Causes of the Civil War" Homework :) I've yet to finish it

Never heard of it....I had just started my sophomore year of HS, most sitcoms were still in B&W....

Oh...you had better 'keep your nose to that grindstone'.

Don't get us old guys arguing about the Civil War.

Tell us what you think, when you're done with the assignment. We're expecting a brief report by the end of the week. Next week.

Heheh, it's just one of those weekly assignments where you have to write the identity and significance of the terms & people, and then there's a few questions to answer about blah blah blah and why. I finished it shortly after 5PM PT struck.

Excellent report ! Very timely.

I'm going to grade it :banana::banana::banana::banana:.

Heck yes, used to watch it, the "main character" is a German Shepherd type dog. Cool old show that I had utterly forgotten until I read this thread, @Romeo Wolf so thanks for posting this, conjures for me @ least nice memories of the Sixties.

That was a great discovery you made RW! We watched both episodes that you posted and they took me way back, love the old cars, boat & buildings also. I remember seeing the original 1958 movie on TV around '62 or '63. This is the episode we watched about 6 months ago.

Since I mentioned how this is my favorite Television show, I thought I'd sticky my favorite episode out of the bunch :)

Gotta love that quote! :D

Ah, it's a pleasure!

Btw if you didn't know, London (the Dog starring "Hobo" in the series) is a "Reverse Mask" German Shepherd Dog. At least that's what I've come to believe :)

It's a fairly rare variation of GSD if you ask me. I've never seen one in person, but there's quite a few on the internet.

Yes, I see that, and never noticed it when I was a kid .... and we had two GS dogs @ our home (+ a Rottweiler and 3-4 "toy" doggies that belonged our grandmother). Funny thisng is that the "reverse mask" actually has more the appearance/placement of what we think of -- or is that used to think of, LOL re The 'Rona Reset? -- as a "mask" ala Zorro or the Lone Ranger.

I remember the show. I don't remember much about it or the details of any of the shows I saw, but I remember the show.

How about a London t-shirt . . .

I am quite certain that the dogs toured with the trainer and / or production personnel back in the time period. I remember receiving a B & W photo of the German shepards. This was in Winnipeg where I grew up, must have been around 9 or 10 at the time. I guess they did not hide the fact that more than one dog was used in the series. Of course, details are now sketchy after all of these years but the location was almost without a doubt the Eatons store downtown.

Yep. They used one dog in the original 1958 film "The Littlest Hobo". That GSD was the original London, and he served in another, albeit his last film titled "My Dog, Buddy" in 1960. He passed in 1961 at the ripe old age of 15.

You can watch all seven parts of this film on YouTube.

For the 1963-1965 series, Chuck (owner & trainer of his GSD's) used two Dogs; London #2, and Toro.

For the second (more well-known) series, Chuck used 4 Dogs; London #3, Toro #2, Bo, and Thorn. All were Male GSD's.

(Not mine; I snatched this off the FB Fan page)

At one point he had 7 GSD's: Those three males (London #2, Toro & Thorn), including two Males, Lance and Litlon (Little London), and two females: Venus and Roura.

If memory serves correctly, these were the two female GSD's.

There is vastly more to this than I would be willing to speak of. But nowadays, these GSD's with the unique "Reverse Mask" markings of Eisenmann's come at a very pretty sight, and are believed to be extremely rare, though if you do come across an authentic example.

There are, however, Shiloh Shepherds which are based off the roots of that of Eisenmann's dogs, though they don't have the same unique "Reverse Mask" facial markings.

Currently I am watching Season one of the second series. I do find it can have cheesy acting and laughable scripting at times, but it's still certainly much more watchable (and enjoyable) than a "Reality" Television Show from today :)

I have been told that anyone who says they remember the 60's was not really there. ;)
