Anyone excited about the 2026 F1 season?

2 races into the F2 season, Colton Herta is in 13th place. He scored points in the 2 races and none in the 2 sprints.

It must be a challenge racing a new type of car, on unfamiliar tracks that are a couple of thousand miles from home.

GO, MAN GO!

I agree that F1 has represented the pinnacle of motorsport. But until recently every advance was there because it made the cars faster with no regard to outside, non-racing-related interests.
There certainly has been a trickle-down from F1 advances over the years but F1 should not -in my opinion- exist to create those trickles.

Formula E is a better platform to highlight EV technological advances.

MotoGP -the motorcycle equivalent of F1- is very much leaving things alone in that regard, all the classes remain fully "conventional". They did create a MotoE class that apparently was put on hold at the end of the 2025 season.

A reasonable opinion, I also think EV advancements should go more into Formula E.

This is the first formula season in which I have not liked the technical rules at all. Last time I felt so against the rules was then they banned slick tires. This was 2007 I think.

I'm not really against battery storage, electrical motor supplementing the combustion one. KERS was okay. But this season, they have went to an extreme.

Indy 500 at 12:30, Canadian GP at 4. I've already put the word out at home, "Don't bother me on Sunday afternoon".
Gonna be a lot of wet race tracks on the eastern half of North America. Might be a lot of waiting around instead of racing.

I seem to remember something about NASCAR considering wet tires for road courses?
They do have them. Notice the tip of the windshield wiper in the top of car camera views of the cars on the Roval, The Glen, Sears Point and such.

So Monaco is this weekend and I will be ignoring the entire event.
Absolutely the single stupidest place to host an F1 race and has been for a very long time now. They might as well hold a race in a parking garage.

I don't care about tradition, history, how many ultra-rich people show up with mega-yachts, or anything else.

I always watch it, it is also the only one I have been to, 1989. My ship pulled into Menton that week.

Long story short, we "weaselled" our way trackside, hanging on the fence, right after the current turn 14. Only thing that sucked was we didn't have any hearing protection because we bought general admission tickets.

Well since overtaking is nearly impossible on the Monaco track, qualifying becomes (almost) the race. The race itself is then only a matter of tire / pit-stop strategy, not crashing and not breaking. I guess a hundred years ago, cars were slow enough and small enough to make this track interesting. But the cars have outgrown the venue and the venue cannot change.

I believe a vintage race is held every summer on this track. I think the track and city are better suited for a vintage race and that would be at least somewhat cheaper and easier to attend - maybe. We have a vintage race at Laguna Seca in Monterey CA every August which draws far more people than either the Indy or IMSA races at that track (I go to all 3). Zak Brown, CEO of both McLaren's IndyCar and F1 teams, races early '60s McLarens at this vintage race.

I'm OK with watching some of the spectacle around F1, seems to me to be a part of the entertainment until it morphs into hype. (Too much hype around the US races at Miami and Vegas.) But a lot of people (including me) are becoming more and more unhappy with F1. To much hype and politics and car formulas that have agendas other than racing. This year even the drivers are complaining. It's not a good sign that one of the top drivers in F1 (Verstappen) goes racing in a GT sports car and appears to be having much more fun.

I'm also frustrated that Apple provides no DVR option. While the races are archived for later on-demand watching, practices and qualifying coverage disappears after 2 days. And no alternatives in the US.

It will be interesting to see how F1 and the FIA react and adjust to this or not. Maybe they don't care - hard to argue when 300,000 people show up to watch.

Cool story! I'm sure being there is an amazing experience.

In the 90s vendors were selling ear plugs but I doubt Monaco had many outside the gate vendors for this item.

Cigarette filters, maybe you coulda bummed a couple smokes from some French girls.
