I got some brand spankin' new vinyl for Christmas this year, the first time in many decades I can say that. Leonard Cohen's "You Want It Darker". Dying to give it a spin, but I will have a measure of self control and will wait until the day of Christmas music on the excellent local classical FM station has run its course.... maybe!

I didn't receive any vinyl, but I did have the joy of gifting my stepdaughter with a stack of records including Joe Cocker, Abby Road, Billy Idol, Simply Red, Santana Abraxus, and about 15 other titles. I also gave her a Vintage Stereo system with a nice Pioneer PL-12D. It was such a pleasure to see her face light up when she saw it! :)

The big gift of vinyl, this year, is The Complete Recorded Works of The Mississippi Sheiks.

Five volumes spanning 6 years, 1930-1936, from Third Man Records.

Other artists in this "Document" series.

Blind Willie McTell
Charlie Patton

Looking forward to spinning some new blues vinyl, probably Monday.

Wow. All I can say! Some great listening there, to say the least!

My wife got me a soul album. A new guy, haven't heard it yet, I also ordered several albums for myself on Discogs. My xmas present to myself. Donald Fagan nightfly, two from steely dan, lauryn hill unplugged at MTV, and Issac Hayes black Moses, and Donny Hathaway, Donny Hathaway. Some of these I wanted for a long time.

My AK SS gave me the 2011 WYWH sealed. A friend (that is a walking music encyclopedia) gave me a big pile of carefully picked used LPS ranging from Ry Cooder to Renaissance to Texas Cowboys (meant Playboys) another friend gave me the Mosaic Monk (blue note recordings) box set from his personal collection (long OOP)..... and I bought myself NM Tull and Elton LPs (Thick As A Brick, Benefit & Madman, Honky Chateau) .

I heard the CD of that OP record, over at Grumpy's. Great tunes. There are three CDs in the series, from the session. I'll have to look up that LP, and see if there are others from the session.

I love me some Oscar Peterson.

One of a few original Jazz LP's. This one came from England, made it just in time for xmas. Mint yellow label stereo, sounds great.
