Anyone in to Motorola HS-738A monoblocks?

Neighbor was going to trash a pair of these a couple of years ago. They were made by his grandfather. I saved them. It looks like a home brew project powered speaker. Real plastic formica was in style back then I guess.

One speaker is a Jensen. Not sure about the others.

Curious if anyone has experience with these. The Transformers are a pretty good size. From what I've researched, these were part of a bi-amp, powering the higher frequencies. I think an EL34 amp took care of the lows.

Awesome! I didn't know that Motorola made those mono blocks but I do know they made the full range stereo version of those combined amplifiers. I rebuilt one for a member here a few years back. There are pics........I might look! :D

A big plus from what I can see from here is that you got some Bugle Boy tubes. :thumbsup:

Alas, the Amprex tubes didn't test very well. One of the quad failed, two tested worn, and one was good. I'm using the Motorola labels Mullards (one good, 3 worn) just for testing.
 
Even though you have results from your tube tester, you really should hear how they sound in the units themselves. The amps themselves are the best tube tester.

I have a quad of 6BQ5 tubes that test below the marginal point on my tester but sound great in my amp. Getter flash is almost used up on a couple but they still sound great.
 
Ok good to know. I won't throw them out. I use worn tubes on amps I'm not sure of (mods, worn out caps, etc.)

Ok, found the issue was just the homemade RCA cable from the amp to the back of the speaker. I want to make something a little more solid.

Otherwise, they each played clean using my Strat. They currently have a 1/4 phono input. Haven't ran any music through it.
