Anyone into South American folk music?

I was always liked the brazilian jazzy stuff but I've been getting into really good South American Folk music as well..Victor Jara, Jorge Cafrune, Eduardo Gatti.

Can anyone recommend some groups/artists/albums to look out for? Thx a lot

I love South American folk music. I think that the Jorge Cafrune album with Marito ("Virgen India") is one of the most beautiful records ever made. I also have some incredibly nice LPs by Victor Jara, Isabel and Angel Parra, Inti Illimani and Uña Ramos. Does Milton Nascimento qualify as a folk artist? Some of his recordings are superb, too.

Check out the Putumayo and Rough Guide labels for some really good sampler CDs. They should be available in your local library.
