Anyone know this Console?

Come across this console, it's a Voice of Music the owner thought it was from the 50's. Just wondering if anyone out therer has had any experience with these and would it be worth messing with. He's asking $40 for it.

Thanks,

yeah, thats Frank.

V-M stuff is generally well regarded. Its not Fisher, but its not Morse Electrohome either. Probably a 6aq5 or maybe a 6bq5 amp. V-M changer as well of course. They actually made their own. thevoiceofmusic.com can sell you just about any part you could ever want for that changer, and they probably have service info on the rest as well should you need it. For 40 bucks, I'd take it home.

gadget73, any idea of the speaker compliment in this thing, I actuallly haven't been able to look at it yet.

This type of console lends itself to being separated, if you really wanted to do that. The tuner and amp were probably sold as separates by VM as well.

That automatic 45 spindle sure brings back memories. Not getting it on just right and it doesn't drop the next disc properly and arm comes over and tries to drop and.......:nono:

Likes nice!!! It prob works best with everything inside the console though... make sure u dont gut the amp out

I recently saw & listened to that exact model locally. It did not sound good "as a console" (open-back speakers...).
It will be difficult to part out, as the preamp doesn't have a traditional faceplate...just a thin sheet of metal nailed to the wood.
The amp is a single-ended EL84 deal, around 7 WPC RMS.
If you're going to spend the time hauling it, finding space in your house, etc., there are better consoles out there.

My 2¢
