Hi gang,
Just wondering if anyone else out there is listening to movie soundtrack music.... composers like Hans Zimmer, James Horner, Harald Kloser, Steven Jablonsky and others. I love listening to this stuff and I also like to stream Cinemix.us internet stream from my laptop into my Onkyo TX-65. Let me know which movie soundtrack composer you like!

Although it gets played to death during baseball season. Randy Newman's soundtrack for "The Natural" deserves a serious listen. It has been compared to Gershwin and captures the time period of the 1930's that the movie is set in perfectly. my favorite track is "The mind is a powerful thing."

If you are still in the baseball mode after that The Soundtrack to Ken Burns series "Baseball" is miles better than the documentary series was. Everything from jazz versions of the "Star spangled banner" to a jazz number featuring Willie Mays to Carly Simon singing the sexiest version of "Take me out to the ball game" that you ever heard.

Another one that grabbed me was the soundtrack to "That thing you do" the conceit of the album
is that it was produced by the fictional record company headed by Tom Hank's character in the film and the songs were all released by this fictional company around 1960-1962. Although modern compositions they sound just like songs that COULD have been hits in that era IF they had existed. It is a very interesting listen.

Ennio Morricone for certain.

One of the next LPs I plan to clean and spin is David Hentschel's soundtrack for Educating Rita. I bought it for $2 because of his Genesis connection.

Anyone know this one? Any good?

Movie Soundtrack Maven

I have at least 1000 movie soundtracks minimum. I have been collecting them for over 25 years. My favorite composers are:

Jerome Moross (The Big Country, Cardinal, Jayhawkers, etc)
John Williams (Star Wars, Superman, Jaws, etc)
Jerry Goldsmith (Bandolero, Patch of Blue, Star Trek, etc)
Elmer Bernstein (Magnificent Seven, Ten Commandments, Stripes, Walk on the Wild Side, etc)
Randy Newman (The Natural, Pleasantville, Avalon, Awakening, etc)
Thomas Newman (Road to Perdition, Green Mile, American Beauty, etc)
Rachel Portman (Emma, Cider House Rules, Grey Gardens, etc)

When movie scores were written for movies and not the garbage we have today with oldies and pop tunes substituted for original compositions
