Anyone try Ohm's with tubes?

Anyone have any success driving Ohm Walsh 4 speakers with a tube amp? I have the 4xo's and was thinking of trying a 45-50 watt EL34 or KT88. I know people say that Ohm speakers play better with 100+ wpc SS amps but according to their web site they are 90 dB and my pair says 8ohm so I'm thinking that they are efficient enough for tubes?

Anyone try tubes?

Ohm with tubes.

A vey long time ago I sold Ohms while working in s asteroid store. Love the way they sounded, put them practically andyshere BUT it took really healthy amount if wattage and current if you could fid it to drive them to reasonable spl. Most lower powered amp under 100 wattsq were just not enough

I have a pair of fours that I use with a 15wpc tube amp. I have no problems. I also have a small room.

I have a pair of Grommes/Precision Electronics s60 60wpc tube amps that I will be rebuilding specifically to use with the Ohms. I think these will give me a good bit of headroom with my listening habits.

The speakers sound like they are even more efficient than 90db at one watt, but they also seem to take much more volume knob to bring the level up compared to other speakers of similar sensitivity.

If you just use the formula, the speakers should output 105db/1m with 32 watts.

1 w 90 db
2 w 93 db
4 w 96 db
8 w 99 db
16w 102db
32w 105db
64w 108db

I'm not sure how accurate this formula is once you've reached that 6th level of power doubling.

Regardless, it's much louder than I need in my room, so I'm hoping at my listening levels I should have 6db of headroom with a 60 watt amp.

I drive my 4's in the winter months with a pair of 85wpc tube mono blocks. Tubes and Ohms are a great combo:thmbsp:.
