Anyone wear Hearing Aids?

Some of you may have heard that I am hearing impaired, and yes, I do wear hearing aids. To be specific, Oticon Opn 3's.

They're my 3rd pair of hearing aids, and while I am enjoying them, there is one problem with them; Whenever I push my Aiwa Exos-9 quite hard with very bass heavy recordings (Ex: "Alone. Again." - White Shinobi) these Opn 3's will start to clip or form a Square wave on the peaks, even though the track is just sub-40Hz bass and these aids aren't supposed to reproduce frequencies below 240Hz. The left side clips much more than the right, considering it is more towards the speaker.

Meanwhile the Exos-9 is vibrating the drywall to hell as you press your hand against it, and it doesn't break a single sweat.

Any hearing-aid fellows here on AK? What's your experience with 'em?

No wonder you are always searching for bass...

Seems like with those aids, you will never find it.
What can't be heard must thus be felt. Young lad must therefore compensate with enhanced crankage of the throttle knob.

I understand the physics and limitations of those "Microscopic" drivers and amplifier in my hearing aids. Perhaps it's actually the microphones clipping? Seems like it.

LOL I decided to finally have my hearing checked in 2012 when I was taking a break from contracting in Iraq. Women have complained about me having "selective hearing" literally ALL my life, starting with my mother. When I had the hearing test the guy said normal peoples hearing starts at around 20 db. My hearing doesn't start till 50. He said that is why I have a problem hearing women ,, their voices are generally in that 20-50db range where I have zero hearing,

I went to a place called New Sound Hearing to have mine checked. I just didn't trust places like Costco and Walmart. but that is just my own predjudice kicking in. Best thing I ever did tho was having my hearing checked and getting hearing aids. I got a pair toward the high end (they communicate with each other via bluetooth) then had them programmed so that the button on the left one turns them up and down, and the button on the right one puts them in "wife mode" i.e. mutes them so I can tolerate restaurant noise and loud movie theaters. They make them now that will interface with your iphone via bluetooth so you can answer the phone, and listen to music from your phone but those are pretty pricey still
I quickly checked my hearing with the stereo microphones off my Galaxy S9 (and using an app called Decibel X) to see where I start hearing noise, although it's not really accurate since I can't set it to "C", cause I don't have the cash to pay for the extra features. The S9 does have pretty good microphones though.

I'm averaging about 41.2 DB when I start hearing noise, although I'd round that out to 40Db. So better than some others, but obviously I'm still decently hard of hearing.

I used a Zenith Trans-Oceanic D7000Y for this short & simple test, on FM obviously. I could've just rotated the bandswitch to enter a band where it's mainly white noise, but I didn't think that through at the time. The volume control was also very touchy, so if you turned it a millimeter at the start, it would be blaring 65Db and probably break your earbuds. But anyway, here's some T/O Tax:

You might check with your local office of Vocational Rehabilitation to see if you might qualify for a college stipend. I once worked for Voc. Rehab. and we often purchased hearing aids and provided college and vocational training assistance. Don't know if things have changed and states may differ in services but with the cost of tuition it's worth looking into.

Anybody got an “ear trumpet”? That would be a beyond-cool antique to hang in the gentlemen’s cavern.
I remember a really great one in one of the Harry Potter movies, no?

So I checked some of my audiology history and found a couple pieces of brief data, nothing particularly nerdy.

My hearing loss, in better detail was caused by ototoxic antibiotics to treat sepsis while in NICU.
