APEX TV's?

What do you think of their quality? I want to get a TV to upgrade my 19 inch Sanyo and I want a TV with component inputs to get a better picture with my Xbox. I have heard several different things about APEX. I have heard that APEX is the best bang for your buck kind of company and I have also heard they are crap. So I was hoping I could get more opinions about Apex. So what do you think of APEX? BTW here is the TV I was looking at http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.j...id=-8043&qp=0&bookmark=bookmark_30&oid=69141

Thanks for the help,

Chris

Apex is basically sh*t. They sell that cheap brand here in Canada at The Future Shop. That store is similar to a circuit city or a Best Buy in the U.S.I've heard nothing but horror stories from people who've had the misfortune of purchasing ANY Apex product from DVD players to TV's. They are dirt cheap for a good reason. Sometimes you get exactly what you pay for. CV buy a real name brand TV and it'll last you 15yrs or buy the Apex and pray it'll last 15 months.

Well what other brands do you like? I'm going to be a little hard headed on this and say the only thing I want is a 27 inch flat screen with standard component inputs. I have found RCA, Sanyo, APEX (as you already know), Emerson and the Sony WEGA (if I feel like reaching real deep into my pockets). I know odds are the Sony has the best picture but it also kind of out prices the other ones to by a few hundred.

Toshiba, Pioneer, Panasonic,Hitachi etc..all make more than adequate flat screen TV's. Personally I have a 20" Toshiba flatscreen in my bedroom and the picture is fantastic. Plus I can rest assured it won't be a paperweight about 2 yrs from now. The Sony's are nice but hardly worth the extra $$. You should check ebay as I see NIB TV's of that size seem to appear quite frequently.

I bought a 19" Zenith at Cicuit city about a year ago for my bedroom and for the 150 or so bucks it cost I couldnt be happier. Hell I bet its even cheaper now.

If you want a pretty basic TV, I know there is a 25" Sansui (yep, that's right, Sansui) at BB for $180 or so, I have heard very good things about it, and it has nice features (audio/video controls etc... more then the average set that price)

AFA best brands, IMO Sony and Toshiba are the best, Sony makes real nice TV's and Toshiba is a close runner up wither their bigger flat-screens and plasmas

I would stay away from Apex, or another cheap brand like that.

I have been wanting to get a new TV ( used 36" Sony w/ S-vdeo or compoent input, maybe 5 years old, since you can get one for like $200 or so) as my TV is a 25" Sanyo, plain jane, I mean it has like NO features, mono, although I use my HT system, so that dosn't matter, basic video controls, and only 1 RF input, not even RCA jacks! but I am actually quite surprised by the picture quality of it. I have had it around 5 years now? and only problem with it, none of the front panel buttons work (ok, the menu does if you push it a certin way) but that was becuase a few years back when I was moving the little TV-cart I had it on, the TV fell off of it, hit the floor and the side actually split (where the 2 pieces come together) and I just never bother trying to fix it as the remote works fine.

But if you want a quality TV for cheap, check out a Sony that is 3-5 years old, it should be pretty cheap, and, IMO Sony has the best picture of all the brands.

Dang I just noticed that you can have an option of getting a 27inch flat or give up the flat feature and get a 32 instead. Having a 32 in my bedroom is tempting but it might be overkill.

Get a toshiba or a sony. nuff said. Id personally get a toshiba over a sony. but if circuit city doesnt have what you want. go somewhere else! I myself am perfectly happy with my toshiba 19 inch, does what i need and doesnt give me trouble.

I agree with Thor - Sony makes the best TV's. They have great image quality and are reliable.

The other brand that is good is Panasonic.

Another brand that makes good TV sets and is not on your list that is worth looking into is Samsung.

IMO JVC is not bad, not the best either, although I would say they are alittle more on the good side. Picture quality isn't up to par with Sony etc.. but they seem to be very reliable

Overall I would consider JVC....

I found a beautiful Sharp 27" stereo TV in the garbage on the way to work. Manufacture date code is Feb 1997

Been turned on all day here at work. Works perfectly

I have my HDTV coming tommorow so I gotta find something to do with my 27" Sanyo and the entertainment stand it's in :(

I have a JVC set in the living room as our main set. 31", great picture, great sound.....no complaints here.

Last time I looked at CRT monitors the Toshiba seemed the best for the money.(TVs were large screeen only) Best way is to go and look at the things and buy it from a place with a 30 day money back no questions policy. Just keep the box and everything else if you even think you might take it back.

Well, if you go to compare 2 TV's in a store, make sure the settings are the same.

I have seen it wayyy too many times where a person (that has no clue) will go to a sales person at BB or something, and compare 2 TV's side-by-side and they would be like, wow, TV X has such a better picture over TV Y

after they are done, I check out the settings on both, and they are like the opisit, 1 has the sharpness all the way down, tint way to one side, too bright etc...

I have my own settings how I set up all my TV's and I am very happy with the results. off the top of my head I jack the sharpness all the way up (makes the picture, uhh more sharp. more sharp=more clear) tint just a tad on the green side. contrast *almost* all the way up, but brightness about halfway or so (usually the high contrast, and darker brightness makes the picture look better) Among some other things like that, some may dissagree (my father swears when he turns the sharpness all the way up on his 20year old Sony consel TV it makes the picture more grainy, I say otherwise) but that is how I like it. If your TV has a temp setting, I go with cool (favorie color is blue, I like things with a blue tint- like my computer monitor, but the knob fell inside the montiro like 1 1/2 years ago now, and I am not able to change ANY settings on the monitor, it really sucks too)

Sony TV's and flat screens are way over rated.

Sony's reputation stems mainly form their professional monitors , which are excellent but extremely expensive ($60k for a 34" WS HDTV monitor), their domestic TV's were the best back in the late 80's /early 90s but their current range is ordinary.

None of the current Sony Wega CRT sets are even close to perfection , all suffer from geometric distortions, over zealous SVM circuits and tubes that are run to within an inch of their lives.

Flat screens are actually the last thing you want for a good TV.
These things suffer from geometric and convergence problems.
Plus need to run sophisticated beam alignment circuitry to compensate for the unequal firing distance of the RGB guns.

Too meet cost restraints corners are inevitably cut.

Toshiba, Hitachi and Europeans like Loewe/Philips seem to have pulled ahead of Sony in the domestic arena.

I went through the pain of searching for a new WS monitor a few months ago and nothing came close to meeting my requirements (primarily a great picture).

So until the coffers fill up enough for a TOTL plasma, I'm stuck with my old faithful analog Sony 34" monitor.

I gotta disagree about Sony

At my fathers, I have a standerd 20" Trinitron, nothing special (mono, 1 RCA input etc..) but the picture is really, really nice. when I bring my PS2 or something over, and just hook it up by the RCA jacks, I can't believe the picture quality. One of the tennants that was moving out gave it to me becuase they didn't want it anymore. It is about 6 years old probally.

I know I am not going to get a brand new TV (don't have the money) but like I said before, I want to get a 3-5 year old Sony 36" with alot of inputs (and s-video or even component) and IMO that will be a huge step-up from my 25" plain jane Sanyo w/ RF input (not a bad TV, but nothing special)
