Apple AirPlay 2?

I've wondered about how Apple AirPlay 2 works for some and have been unable to find an answer to my question. Apple AirPlay 2 imposes a limit of 16 bit/44.1 kHz sampling on streaming. Where is this limit imposed - At the computer (transmitter) or at the Airport Express (receiver) or other device or both. If the computer is hardwired (no AirPlay 2) to an amp or DAC, I assume this limit does not come into play. True?

I believe it happens at the sending device.

Yes, if you have a computer attached to something with a DAC capable of higher resolutions, the Music app will play them directly in their native resolution.... assume you computer is set up for that. Macs do not do bit rate switching on the fly in the Music app, so if you have files to play in a higher resolution, you may want to look for a different app or you would have to go into settings every time. Not sure about iTunes on Windows, but I think it may have the same issue.
