Apple Patent; Isn't this what Polk SDAs do?

I saw this article about a patent Apple had applied for, and thought it looked suspiciously like a cross between Polk SDAs and Carver's Sonic Holography.

It appears to use a l-r signal combined in a way to widen the stereo image, or to create a phantom center channel.

Any thoughts?

Apple has filed a number of total headscratcher "audio" patents lately.

Here's one granted this year for what literally amounts to a sealed powered speaker with a microphone inside the cabinet and one outside the cabinet that applies equalization:

Yeah. No way in hell prior art exists on that idea. Totally brand new.

Patent law as it currently stands in the U.S. is an absolute CF in case you didn't already know.

If they can steal anyone else's idea apple will. Then sue you for already infringing their patent. Even if it's your own patent.

sure does sound a lot like Bob Carvers Sonic Holography circuit to me, but I'm too lazy to look up his patent.
