Apple Refund Phone Scam

The guy I cited said he was fully aware it was a scam right from the beginning. He gave in because the caller(s) were persistent and insisted he do what they said. So he did. He said something like, "They kept asking me to do it, so I finally had to."

Odd, that.

I wonder if I could have emailed him every day asking for, say, £1000. Would he eventually turn over the cash?

I suspect he would. Some folks seem unable to resist being commanded. I bet the scammers and spammers rely on it in addition to naivety and gullibility.

I'd call BS on that claim, myself. Probably not to him online, but in my mind.

He needs help.

All kinds of scams, Microsoft, Apple, Windows, etc...

The latest in our part of the world is some guy with a heavy Punjabi accent who is named "Richard Williams" claiming he is from the Canada Revenue Agency regarding taxes being owed and that there is an arrest warrant out for the guy getting the call, to meet at a specified meeting place with cash otherwise he will be arrested.

I get those calls. Except it's a woman with an 'Indian' accent, and a REALLY robotic tone.
"If_you_do_not_call_you_will_be_arrested. And_it_will_be_your_fault".
Good grief.

I may call "Jeff" one more time and string him along for as long as I can....then...."I know you called me to try to steal money from a stupid American, but I'm on to you, and you've wasted 20 minutes of your time with me....NOW who's stupid?"

On another forum, a fellow said he was caught by one of those "We're from Microsoft and we need to fix your computer" scams. He said he knew it was a scam from the start, but they kept calling back and were so insistent that he finally gave in.

I find it unbelievable that anyone could be so malleable, but I guess it happens. I wonder how many people out there are neither gullible, nor foolish, but are simply unable to resist persistence and insistence even when they know better.

This used to work in our teens when we were interested in a particular girl. You would be surprised at how many actually give in if you are persistent!

Yes, I had a call like this, but it was a pure computer generated voice. This was a voice message left on my phone. I would have loved to talk to him. Or better yet, my sister, who works for CRA.

For a while I was getting calls to help me out with my student loans. Haven't had a student loan in over 45 years. Finally went through all the hoops to tell them the same exact thing and that if they called again I was calling the FBI. No more calls. Then there's the "As a valued American Express customer...." Never have had an AMEX card. And, of course, the cruise comeons. I tell them "I don't want to go to the Bahamas...I'll take six days in London instead." Click.

Wow, Don't you foolks have a life??
