Apt/Holman Repair

Hello, I recently purchased an Apt/Holman pre amp. I am unable to get anything to play out of my aux 1 or 2. I then hooked it up to phono 1 and it plays but when the bass of the song hits it's almost like a clapping sound. I am looking at sending it to the Stereo Repair In house Service company. Anyone know if these guys are any good or is there somewhere else to look that is better. Thanks!!!

What source? If you're not using a turntable, you're overloading the input.
