So when I first got bit by the audio bug I went to a church rummage sale. I found two pairs of the teledyne era acoustic research speakers. The ar-14 and the ar-15G at $5 bucks a pair. Unfortunately when I got them home I soon realized that the woofers in the ar-14s had been replaced by rat shack featherweights.:nono: I already owned ar-5s at that point so I had and idea how ar woofers should sound.
I moved on to the AR-15G's. They had the ar woofers and had already been refoamed!
One has a black surround and the other is much lighter grey.:scratch2: So ofcourse one of the tweeters were blown.:thumbsdn:
I just put them away assuming I would get back to them someday. Finally after at least two years I was reading about the ar-14 and how they originally used the Peerless KO10DT Silk dome tweeter. Then they cheaped out and used and inferior tweeter that had a white ring around it. I recognized both versions of the tweeters immediately as the white ring tweeters my 15's had and the peerless that were on my 14s. So I did the obvious swap and now have a small bookshelf AR-15G with the upgraded peerless tweeters. The 8"inch refoamed woofers sound amazing. Very tight. The peerless tweeters performance floored me. They seemd to pair up beautifully with the punchy 8's. I have been listening to this system that last few days and enjoying the hell of it!
All this has been powered by an old Denon DRA-625RA receiver which is from maybe 1990. 65x2. I would be interested to hear what these will sound like with some of my other "better" recievers. But I have to admit I am pretty impressed by the denons sound with these.
I am going to refinish the cabs to the ar-15gs as these are definately keepers. I will share pics of the progress when I get around to that. I am going to have to compare the crossovers when I get around to it. But I really like the sound right now!!
Thats all for now. Just wanted to share my experience. The wife doesnt really get it. The best I can get is they all sound good.:sigh:

Anyone have any experience with any of this??? AR-14, 15g or these peerless tweeters? I know they were the same one used in some of the polk monitor 10's and 7s among other speakers.
