Ar 2 woofer vs ar 2ax woofer

I've dug but can't find an answer.

I have a pair of 2ax I'm putting back together, and I left one of them face up on the bench. One of my cats decided it looked comfortable... the cone is trashed. Lesson learned.

I do have an AR 2 with a good woofer. The cones are slightly different, and the 2ax has mesh on the basket and an old foam ring around a flat "dome". 2 has a dome and no ribs on the cone. Magnets look identical.

How comparable are the woofers? I have access to a second 2, so I could swap both...

You can always try it and see how it sounds. :dunno:
It sounds decent, just use it until you can find another AR2 woofer.
I have a pair of ADS L570/2's with one woofer from a L570. From what I could find, the only differences between them is the earlier woofer has an aluminum voice coil tube, the later vr.2 has a plastic tube, and a smaller dust cap. I can't tell the difference between them in how they sound.
Do a web search for pictures or a schematic of the crossovers for each version to see if there is a difference between them. Especially the cap value for the tweeter, or midrange driver if there is one, and induction coil for the woofer if there is one.

The early AR-2/a/ax woofer has 6 holes and is larger than
the later version with 8 holes. AR briefly made an adapter
ring to use later version in the early one, but as you might
imagine, they seem to be quite rare.

tl;dr: as long as the diameter is the same, a replacement will
work
