I have a pair Of AR 4X's that one of the tweeters is bad, right now I have a pair of CTS phenolic tweeters that I installed in the AR's. The CTS have larger magnet and match the original screw holes. I also have a pair of EPI 100's with missing tweeters, I gave them to my brother for his EPI's, also the woofers surrounds are bad. I put a pair of Philips 8" woofers in and also a pair of Philips tweeters. I also have a pair of Peerless dome tweeters. Any suggestions or advice, on what tweeters to use.

Don't know about the AR 4x's but the magic of the EPI's is how the woofer & tweeter blend together. In my opinion, replacing either with non-EPI drivers is just a waste of money (unless you are using the ones from Human Speakers).

Thank You, that's my plan to replace the EPI inverted tweeter and woofer but I was just interested in other opinions. I've always wanted "Hot Rod" speakers by putting in new speakers. I also have a pair of RtR's EXP V8's that need a tweeter and a pair of Rectilinear 11a's that need tweeters.

Agree on the comments on EPI unless you design a crossover specifically for the drivers you select, then of course, it's no longer and EPI.

As for the AR4x, it's much the same answer. The AR4x tweeter was unique to that speaker. The phenolic ring replacements can be utilized, but not all phenolic ring tweeters are created equal.

The best replacement for either of these speakers would be OEM used parts.

What are the variations between phenolics? I have a pair that came OEM in my Avid 101s, and I am running a pair of blue ones from Marantz 7's in my AR-4x's (replaced a pair of Realistic 1276As). I wonder what the differences are.

you'd have to measure them.
