Hey stereo studs and studdettes. Considering a pair of AR 4x. Reputedly cherry. As in super nice, not the laminate. But would require hefty (13-14 hours round trip!) drive. Worth it? Thanks!

Entry level speaker. I'm not going far to get something like that unless it is on my list of gotta get a pair. That trip would cost me the the value of the speakers in gas. But then I don't put a three digit value on them. Just way too many other choices. The entry level speaker from most manufacturers was their best seller.

With the added info in the A25 thread, we need to know your goals since it looks like that drive could be a hoarder starter kit.

Wouldn't you rather some better speakers instead of multiple pairs? So would others might like the extra pair.

Nice speakers, I have a couple of pairs.
Worth a 13-14 hour round trip?
Absolutely not.

AR4X are nice small speakers. With that said, not a 12 hour drive nice IMHO........unless very cheap.

Yeah.. not the best idea to take a 14 hour round trip right now.
Roads are less crowded, staying in his own space in the vehicle, can control interactions with people and avoid them while gassing up, can clean up after getting gas with proper hand cleaner/sanitizer, can listen to tunes there and back, can pay remotely, can have the item put in quarantine in vehicle and not remove it for a few days once home. Seems pretty safe to me. Not like a mosh pit.

no. It’s not smart for an older guy that sounds like he is high risk to be going anywhere right now. Touch the gas pump, go inside get a soda, take a piss.. you’ve just encountered a dozen surfaces... and for what? A $100 pair of speakers?? No way.

geez and I live in the NE megalopolis. There are ways around that getting gas, use gloves, carry alcohol to wash hands when done and leave the gloves in the trunk untouched for a week after first use, yes I have a pile of cheap plastic gloves in the car, use remove and worry about them after covid on them dies. Hand sanitizer.

Carry food and water from home don't go on this trip to dine out. There are ways but the way I can't figure is shelling out a c-note for a pair of AR-4x speakers.

But each person needs to determine what they want to do in these times.

Coming from an AR fanboy, they are great speakers for a small room, but not worth the drive, IMO. Unless they are truly NOS. Even then I think it's not worth the drive.
