AR-4X Tweeter ?

Just completed a re-cap on my AR-4x. I have one tweeter that reads 4.6 OHMS but sounds distorted. I originaly thought it was a cold solder joint and re-flowed solder connections. So I pulled a tweeter from another pair of AR-4X and placed in the cabinet. the speaker sounds fine. Any thoughts on the tweeter that sounds distorted and can it be repaired?

Check to make sure the surround hasn't separated from the basket. This was a problem on the pair that passed through here, although on mine it was just a small area and didn't cause any sort of distortion that I noticed...
 
I thought that might be the problem as the metal is rusted and the surround has seperated a little. Looked at he other tweeter and it has a little seperation. I plan to put some glue on them. Any issues with cone realignment?
 
help update, glued surrround and tried again. tweeter works if a place a little inward pressure on the cone. maybe I need to have the tweeter rebulit.
 
The only other thing I can think to suggest would be to re-wet the solder joints at the tweeter terminals where the voice coil leads attach. You might get lucky.
 
pots were just cleaned and not replaced. It appears to be a problem with the tweeter itself. If you put a little inward pressure on the outside edge of the cone while the music is playing the tweeter sounds much better.

What I have noticed is a bad pot will cause the tweeters to act strange. I have taken the pots completely apart and cleaned them but you will notice the corrosion that has developed on the metal has eaten away the metal also. I have never seen a bad tweeter on an ar, just bad pots. I have a pair of ar-4x's here now and the pots are shot. I would suggest jumping the pot or replacing it before you install a new tweeter. Just my 2 cents, since you replaced the caps, I would do the pots, install new stuffing and new woofer sealant. Then you would have a nice fully restored set, I have thought about it but find myself selling the small speakers to make room for x-large speakers :D
