AR 58B Tweeter Repair

I have two tweeters from a pair of AR 58B speakers found at the curb.

One tweeter is dead. The second works but one of the spade leads is too short.

Is it possible for these items to be repaired?

I noticed a guy on eBay offering tweeter rebuild services. https://www.ebay.com/itm/333878667954?ul_noapp=true

I've never been brave enough to take that style of tweeter apart. But, the same diaphragm is used on multiple AR's. AR9s, 90s, 91s, 92s, 58S's, 38s, 48s, and 58s used those tweeters. Different face plates, same tweeters.

It is possible with careful soldering to extend those leads, I believe at least one of your tweeters are salvageable.

In regards to that rebuild you linked, for “fun” I experimented installing those Chinese dome/coil assemblies he is using for his “rebuilds” in the ar58/9 etc. style tweeters. The sound is way way off. It is very intrusive into the midrange.

By these tweeters originally having no edge roll around the dome, it accomplishes a carefully designed mechanical high pass along with the electrical high pass from the crossover. That aftermarket dome will not provide this and the sound will be very wrong. Also the geometry of the aftermarket dome is less hemispherical, so the dispersion characteristics are different.
