I picked up a pair of these today from my favorite GW. One worked fine, and the other appeared to be dead, as in no sound when used with two different amplifiers. The reading multimeter was around 4.6 ohms, which seemed odd for a dead speaker. I tested the working one for comparison, and it was the same. Ok, so let's connect it up again. The dead speaker worked, so that much mean that I marked the bad one incorrectly. I hooked up the other one, and they both worked. I'm not sure what was going on there, but I checked the spring terminals when it appeared dead and even switched wires. Whatever, I'm not going to spend a lot of time trying to figure out how a multimeter made a speaker start working!
Naturally, there's not much bass from these, but that's to be expected. They do sound pretty good - smooth and crisp without making my ears hurt after listening for a bit. The grill fabric is a bit faded on one, and I'd like to see what's involved in replacing it. I cannot find a way to open up this speaker, however. Does anybody have any experience with these speakers and have any clue as to how to remove the front grills or get into them at all? I assume they're related to the other 'partner' models. (The pic below is not my pair.)
