AR LST 2 any good? Yes and extensive restoration!

Saw some on CL for a buck and a half need some work.

Excellent and rare speaker...The LST-2 was the big brother to the AR-5 in the same way the AR-LST was to the AR-3a. $150 is a bargain. They often sell for north of a grand restored.

I left a message with the seller. We'll see what happens.
The badges are there and the seller says all the drivers are there, woofers need reforming, the grill fabric needs replacing.

I requested pics of the drivers to confirm they are original.

Let's hope it works out.
I'll keep you posted.

We have a deal.

I'll pick them up next Tuesday. He'll send more pics.
He bought them from neighbors who were the original owners.

He said the cabs were pretty good and should clean up nicely.

I'll post the pics when I receive them.

Hopefully these will be another fun resto project.

I look forward to all suggestions, advice etc...

I'm assuming they will need a re-cap as well as the woofer surrounds needing replacement.
Too bad Henry didn't use cloth surrounds on these.

I'm not looking for what it's worth, just stating the listed price and are these speakers worthy of restoring.

Yeah, but that still falls in the same category (just to clarify). Doesn't matter now because they've been sold, but essentially, botrytis is right.

I'm betting you're gonna' like those A LOT. So, they're basically a smaller version of the LST? What size is the woofer?

I used to stare at that advertisement for the original LST back when I first joined AK (the one that shows the big opera house), thinking to myself, "I'll never have something like that.". Thankfully, it didn't turn out that way (Just differently). I like the look of the LST-type cab because it's easy to mount them up high.

I hope all the drivers work.

I had a pair from a friend here for a year that needed a tweeter wire fixed but other than that they were 100%. Nice speakers but I preferred some of my speakers.

I hope so.

The seller said all the drivers worked as best as he could tell.

Did some brief reading today, they have a 10 inch woofer. The LST has a 12 inch woofer.

I've seen these once or twice on fleabay, ( there's a listing currently) but haven't heard anyone here mention them much.

I'm really looking forward to hearing these.

Got ya on dollar's & Sence. Didn't really think I was asking what are they worth.

Very cool, congrats on the deal. Would love to see some resto pics when you start bringing these back to life!

Thanks!
I'll post pics once I have them and what needs to be done.

In case you didn't see my Free 1963 KLH thread, I don't think these will be as extensive.

Nice to see a pair of speakers like this falling into the right hands.

I too am looking forward to seeing the restoration, I know you will do a great job on these after seeing how well you did with the KLH 6s!

Thanks canuck!

When I saw the listing, I was a bit hesitant, but after doing a bit of research I realized these are something special and shouldn't pass them up.

Luckily they hadn't been sold.

Are generic surrounds on fleabag fine for these, or are there specific surrounds that are correct.

Just want to start a list.

Also anyone got pics of the cross overs.

Thanks

Double check the tweeters and mids along with the drivers and pots. Alot going on inside of the cabs.

The tweeters and mids can add up to some serious coin if needing to replace.

You got that right. I've seen the driver prices.
The seller said all the drivers were working from a brief test. He didn't want to play them because of the rotted surrounds. He intended to restore them but lost his job, hence the sale.

On my AR2ax's I used the MAT surround for the drivers. Had to use cloths pins to get them onto the cone. But worked out great. I believe they are the same drivers as the ones used for LST's.

Let's hope the drivers all work they are costly when you need em.

You don't see them talked about here because these are expensive to grab today and not too many have them already so getting them...well a couple Pioneer receivers can be had for the price of a pair of these speakers.
