AR TSW-410 - Your thoughts?

I'm addicted to Goodwill. I go there every day at least once.

With that said, I just returned from there with a pair of Acoustic Research TSW-410 speakers. They are in perfect, clean condition except for the foam surrounds. I looked them up in an AR timeline to find that they are from 1987-1989 and cost $550. I saved $530 by shopping GW.

Anyway, I'm not going to repair these until I after I move in a few months, but what do you guys think about them? Are they worth repairing for $35? Are they even worth the $20 I paid? Anyone here use them as their primary speakers?

I found a pair for 16, replaced surrounds, still use them with a small Yamaha receiver. Nice sound!!:thmbsp:

I own several pair of the TSW line: 510s for FL and FR, a single 210 for center, and a pair of 210s for rears. I also own a pair of 410s and a pair of 110s in case I go the 7.1 route but space won't allow it. Obviously I enjoy them for HT use, but I have a pair of Meadowlarks for my 2-channel listening. The ARs have been great and are well worth refoaming.

I found a pair of these at the dump with trashed cabinets. I pulled the tweeters and sold them on ebay for $60! Shhhh.....!

I have the same thing, TSW-410's from Goodwill.

The cabinets on these are 1) in good condition and 2) made of decent materials that that can be refurbished and will last.

That said, I need to refoam as well. They are in the closet waiting their turn. I expect these to be keepers, for no reason other than the lack of crappy vinyl veneer and dry-rotted particle board.

I have the TSW-410's. Cabinets in good shape. The woofers and mids were still in tact but started to crack after a week of playing. Instead of refoaming, I decided to change the woofers. Replaced the mids and woofers with Vifa and Pioneer drivers. The combination was successful.

I listen to these along with some Advent Legacy's. Very enjoyable.
