AR XA Help, Please!

Playing Around
Last night I attempted to "fix" the damping on my XA TT...I could not get the two screws(cone pivot bearings) loose to do the work:scratch2:.

I need some suggestions, tried different screwdivers and pressure, also heated up the screw with a soldering iron(maybe not hot enough???). TIA, Preston

This is from Audio Basic via Vinyl Nirvana AR mods...“back off” the
two cone pivot bearings on each side of the
outer casting until the chrome cylinder and
inner brass cylinder can be removed.

If you haven't stripped the screw, the only thing I can recommend is finding a screwdriver that fits the slot really well and is composed of a good hardened steel.

Thanks Dave, I've been on your site many times and appreciate all your effort and the information on it:yes:

I'll go search for a quality screwdriver...I did raise a lip but think with the proper fitting tool will be OK. I'll put the TT in the truck and take it for a ride:)Preston

Do the screws turn at all, or are they frozen? If the screws are frozen, try squirting a bit of "liquid wrench" on them and then reapply the soldering iron. As Dave said, be sure your driver is a good, firm fit for the screw slots.

If the screws are turning but won't back out, they're stripped and are probably not coming out in a way that will enable them to be used again.

BTW, it is highly unlikely that your damping can ever be "fixed." Hopefully what you're trying to do is just pull the pin to disable it?
