AR XA help

No, as I already had the ONZOW, but there was a thread a while back about them. I think even Mister Pig picked up a set and he already had the ONZOW. He reported they seemed to work fine. Next time I place an order from Amazon I will pickup a set. Seems places like Guitar Center and Musicians Friend carry them in there stores.

I think the Onzow and other similar things work well for keeping dust and what not off once the stylus is nice and clean, but from what I've seen, they don't do much for real cleaning.
I use a LAST stylus brush and the Stylast cleaner for really *cleaning* the stylus and the Onzow and/or Magic Eraser for "every side maintenance".

I just got a sek 2 scope. still dialing it in. I will report back what I find on my on my 1982 vdh cart. I did look at my brand new Denon 103 for starters, and practice. I found it easy to look at the stylus while the cart is not in a head shell. But when in a head shell I can not get enough distance away from the stylus to get an image. I do not really want to pull the cart out of the head shell at this time.

I use the Last system too, once a week. Have had the same bottle for over 25 years. I use the Onzow only once a listening session and brush the stylus every album with an AT or Denon brush. If your records are clean, and mine have been through the Spin Clean and the VPI then a CF brush before playing, then the stylus shouldn't need that much cleaning. Again just my opinion and ymmv.

For the record, I've looked at a few of this posters diamonds.....they were impeccably clean. Going on memory, I reviewed an SAS stylus for another member who had been using the magic eraser and it took me maybe an hour to get the build-up off.

I had some free time today so I cleaned the stylus with the lighter fluid. I got a record out to play and I had a hard time getting out of the inner sleeve like it was stuck to it. It wasn't static cling. I have paper sleeves with the clear liner. It looks like if I would have the record away wet. There where marks on it where the sleeve was sticking to it. This was a new record that I played a couple times before and the sleeve didn't stick before. I checked about a dozen records and they where all like this. I keep the records in air conditioned house. No dampness, heat, or sun shinning on them. Is it possible that something was wrong with the sleeves I bought? I think I got them from bags unlimited. I took a new sealed record and played that and it sounded fantastic. No background noise or clicks or pops. I have 100 records that I cleaned and put in these liners.

Sounds like.............."Houston, we have a problem"..........

Tell me about it. Looks like I have 100 records to clean. The ones I cleaned and put in a plain paper liner are fine

So, back to the original jist of the thread, sans liners gooping up albums, how does the 8mz sound on your XA on good albums?

Hi Marc. The 8MZ sounds real nice. I was surprised of how low the bass went. It has good detail and no background noise. Inbetween songs it was dead quiet
